The Strait of Hormuz is located between Iran and the United Arab Emirates, and is also adjacent to a small section of Oman.
The strait is only 39 km wide at its narrowest, which makes it hard for two ships moving opposite directions to pass through.
The strait is the opening of the Persian gulf, and that Persian area has millions of barrels of oil, daily.
Unfortunately, that strait's is located at a very violent area. Someone in Iran threatened to seal the strait "should economic sanctions limit, or cut off, Iranian oil exports." (Wikipedia)
And that Iranian guy I mentioned above is Mohammad-Reza Rahimi, whom is the Vice President of Iran. This event happened in 12-27-11.
Overall, the Strait of Hormuz is an interesting place. Not only is it used as a choke point, but it also has an unusual shape and an important passage for exporting oil.
