Maverick Express march 2018
MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL TODD CORSETTI
Congrats to all of our winter sports and activities participants. It was another history-making season for our teams and activities this winter as our programs ignited their lift-offs. Spring sports and activities are just starting to heat up, and I hope you can come out and support upcoming games and activities.
Forecasting materials are being entered online in student’s science classrooms as we speak. Please make sure your son/daughter has consulted with you around what courses they should take next year. I would encourage all of our students to sign up for a rigorous course load in order to challenge themselves.
Our first-ever spring musical, Little Shop of Horrors, opens Thursday, March 15th at 7:00 PM. The show continues on the 16th and 17th. More information is available below.
The tragedy of the Parkland school shooting has been on the minds of all of us. We are committed to creating a safe and secure place for our students. In addition to the drills that we complete each year, we also work with our students in Advisory regarding safety protocols. Most importantly, we believe in creating a culture of respect and relationships. Our students are our best resource in notifying us when there is a potential safety issue. To that end, the state of Oregon is part of the Safe Oregon tipline for anyone to report concerns: http://safeoregon.com/report-a-tip/. In addition, we have a very strong partnership with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the Beaverton Police Department and local emergency managers.
Our Public Safety Office works with local law enforcement and building administrators to implement the Standard Response Protocol and the Standard Reunification Method.
Please visit our Public Safety webpage at https://www.beaverton.k12.or.us/district/departments/public-safety to familiarize yourself with these plans. We also are improving safety through a number of bond construction projects, thanks to the wonderful support of our Beaverton community.
We will be showing the Standard Response Protocol video during Advisory on Thursday, March 15. This video was produced by the I Love You Guys Foundation and is designed to provide students with information about how to handle emergency situations. Because the video could potentially be difficult for some students, we will offer families the opportunity to opt-out their students from watching it. If this is your wish, please email your student's Advisory teacher prior to that day. These students will go to the Library for the remainder of the period.
The Principal’s Coffee occurs the third Friday of each month at 9:00 AM in the community room. This is an informal opportunity to find out what’s new at Mountainside and/or to ask general questions. Our next Principal’s Coffee is Friday, March 16th.
If you have questions, you can reach me via email at: todd_corsetti@beaverton.k12.or.us
Sue Neeway is my amazing principal’s secretary, and she can be reached through the Mountainside Main Line at 503-356-3500 or by email at sue_neeway@beaverton.k12.or.us
