Academic Spotlight: Jennifer Bond
Jennifer Bond is a senior at Cabot High School. She is expected to be the Salutatorian in her class of 700 and a 33 on her ACT. She has taken a total of 20 AP or Pre-AP classes since 9th grade, and has maintained straight A’s throughout her high school career. She particularly has a passion for the sciences, and she justly received the CHS Standout Student award in both GT-Seminar 2 as well as in AP Biology, her favorite class at Cabot High. This year, Jenny was inducted into the 2017 Arkansas Women’s Hall of Fame as one of five “girls of distinction” in the state. She had the opportunity to posthumously recognize Maya Angelou, the inspirational African American poet and author from Stamps, AR, as well as Dr. Joanna Siebert, founder of the department of pediatric radiology at AR Children’s Hospital, as they were honored into the Women’s Hall of Fame.
In addition to her academic achievements, she has made it a priority to combine her classroom experiences with impacting her community positively. At the end of her Sophomore year, Jenny and her friend Kylie Smith developed a club for an end-of-year project in their advanced test prep class known as GT Seminar. The club, known as FemiSTEM, aims to encourage girls to pursue STEM- science, technology, engineering, and mathematics- careers after noting that women make up only 25% of the STEM sector. There are two facets to their idea: encouraging younger students to take STEM classes & helping them if they struggle, as well as maintaining and inflaming that interest their older high school group. They have gone to every elementary school in the district doing science demonstrations and volunteer activities with the children, and last year they were involved in the Middle School South Space Day-- a day where the kids not going to space camp, among other things, did science experiments and made liquid nitrogen “space ice cream.” Jenny leads the high school group- which had over 80 members in its first year- on field trips and through volunteer activities, and she aims to host a school wide recycling drive this year.
In addition to FemiSTEM, she is the Vice President of Mu Alpha Theta, the mathematics honor society, and is a member of several other clubs as well. She also was a member of the 2015 state-record setting 4x400 meter relay team for track and field in her Freshman year, and is a state champion horseback rider at the AR Hunter Jumper Association.
In the future, Jenny wants to become a doctor or work in public health, a resolve that was made solid after she interned in the field of neurosurgery last summer. For two months, she worked 55 hour weeks at St. Vincent Infirmary viewing brain and spinal surgeries, and was absolutely enthralled by it. She decided from that summer on that she had to work in healthcare in some regard. She has big plans and is in the middle of her college applications on top of taking 7 AP classes this year.

CHS Check Out Policy
CHS students will be allowed to check out with a parent/guardian note only. A parent/guardian phone number will need to be included on the checkout note for verification purposes.
***No phone call checkouts will be allowed because of safety concerns.
CHS is a closed campus and we strongly discourage students from checking out at lunch. This typically causes unnecessary tardies and classroom interruptions. If a student is checking out at lunch, a parent/guardian must physically come in and sign the student out and them back in from lunch.
Only a parent/guardian is allowed to drop lunch off for a student. If a parent/guardian is dropping off lunch for a student, there will be a table (outside the office) with a sharpie for the students name to be written on it. Students should know in advance that lunch is being dropped off to them.
