3. SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH PROCESS

The Board of Education has begun the search process for the District's next Superintendent. Dr. Lori Bein, our current Superintendent, will begin her well deserved retirement at the end of the 2023-24 school year. At the June 13, 2023 Board of Education meeting, the Board selected School Exec Connect, an educational search firm, to assist us in the process of finding a new Superintendent.
At this meeting, School Exec Connect discussed the following with the Board:

Crossing Guard Locations for 2023-24
That the Board of Education approve crossing guard locations as presented for the 2023-24 school year.
Stacey Mallek, Assistant Superintendent for Business/CSBO, presented the proposed crossing guard locations for the 2023-24 school year. This is an annual item. The Village of Arlington Heights provides the funding for the crossing guard services.
Mrs. Mallek expressed to the Board the difficulty the District has in filling the crossing guard positions. The following crossing guard positions will not be staffed this year:
- Dryden & Olive (wasn't staffed last year)
- Maude & Harvard (wasn't staffed last year)
- Arlington Heights Rd & Park (newly not staffed this year)
- Park & Highland (newly not staffed this year)
- Windsor & Miner (newly not staffed this year)
- Thomas & Harvard (newly not staffed this year)

Serious Safety Hazard Resolution for 2023-24
That the Board of Education approve the "Resolution to Continue Serious Safety Hazardous Busing for the 2023-24 school year."
This is an annual item presented to the Board. There are no changes to the existing hazards that were identified last year. Approval is required to claim State transportation reimbursement.

PRESENTATION OF THE 2023-24 TENTATIVE BUDGET
Assistant Superintendent for Business/CSBO, Stacey Mallek, presented the Board with the tentative budget for the 2023-24 school year.
Legally, this budget must be available for public inspection at least 30 days prior to its potential adoption. The proposed schedule is as follows:
- August 15, 2023 | Presentation of 2022-23 tentative budget
- By August 25, 2023 | Publish notice for public hearing
- September 26, 2023 | Public Hearing
- September 26, 2023 | Adoption of final budget

10. FACILITIES MANAGEMENT
SUMMER PROJECT UPDATE
Superintendent Dr. Lori Bein presented an update on the #Build25 summer projects to the Board. Director of Facilities Management, Ryan Schulz, created a video that was shown at the meeting as well. This video showed the progress of the #Build25 summer projects.
The #Build25 summer projects were completed as expected and the District is off to a great start on the construction needed to host full-day kindergarten in August 2024. Construction and expansion will continue during this school year.

Superintendent, Dr. Lori Bein, updates the Board on Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests from the public. The following were the FOIA requests:
- William Boodro requested information on vendor invoices; a response was provided on July 19, 2023.
- Kate Smyser, NBC Chicago, requested information on book bans/challenges; a response was provided on August 3, 2023.

- Meghan Scholnick requested information on contracts and correspondence; a response was provided on August 10, 2023.

B. SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER PROPOSAL UPDATE
At the Board Meeting on May 9, 2023, Superintendent Dr. Lori Bein brought a proposal for the Board to consider expanding the School Resource Officer (SRO) positions that serve District 25 to two full-time School Resource Officer positions to exclusively be at South Middle School and Thomas Middle School.
After that, the Board was presented further information at the July 11, 2023 Meeting. The Board had some follow up questions that Dr. Bein answered at this meeting. The Board further discussed the SRO proposal/options.
