5th Grade at Bear Creek Elementary
Week 22: January 31st - February 4th
Dear Families,
We hope you had a wonderful weekend!
The students had a great time visiting Gorzycki MS last Friday. We were treated to performances by the dance team, band and choir. We learned about choice sheets and were able to tour the building. Below are a few helpful links to make the middle school transition process as smooth as possible. Please reach out with any questions.
**Next Monday (2/7), GMS will host a "Choice Sheet Night". Check out this link to see what time you should attend (it is set up by last name). Students are encouraged to fill out a choice sheet even if they are applying to magnet schools.
This week Mr. Linnell's homeroom will go to the library with Mrs. Saenz.
Please feel free to reach out to us if you ever have any questions or concerns:
Sincerely,
Ms. Grotte and Mr. Linnell
What we're doing in class this week...
In Social Studies, we are learning about the causes of the Civil War and will begin a deeper dive on the Civil War the second half of the week.
In ELAR, our roots of the week are "ben, bene, bon, boun" meaning "good or well." We are also starting our novel study of the book "Crossover" by Kwame Alexander. Students will be working on a long-term project connected with the book starting this week as well. We are also continuing our review of informational text and verb tenses.
Math: This week we will focus on two-dimensional figures. We will use flow chart to classify quadrilaterals and triangles. See your child's weekly Personal Learning Path (PLP) for more information. To see how your child is performing academically, feel free to check their "Progress Monitoring Sheet". You can also check the "Study Guide" BLEND page for tips on how to help your child in math.
Science: We will start our unit on the water cycle. We will explain what source of energy powers the water cycle and describe why it is cyclical. We will describe the difference between weather and climate. See your child's weekly Personal Learning Path (PLP) for more information. To see how your child is performing academically, feel free to check their "Progress Monitoring Sheet". You can also check the "Study Guide" BLEND page for tips on how to help your child in science.
