Parent Teacher Conferences: Logistics
As we know, Parent Teacher Conference time is nearly here! We will conduct our “usual” conferences in a different manner this year, as all conferences will be conducted virtually. Please read on for a few important notes as you think about your childs’ conference:
Some teachers may choose to send home hard copies of materials to discuss and review with you during your conference, and some may choose to share materials virtually by sharing their screen, etc. during the conference. Teachers will choose the method that best suits their needs, so you may have children in different grade levels who bring home different pre-conference prep things -- and that is okay! All students will bring home their Standards Based Report Card on Thursday, 11/19.
Teachers will push out the link to their virtual meeting in advance of conferences; please note that each teacher will use ONE standing virtual meeting room, so it is imperative that you arrive at your designated time. Anyone arriving early or at the wrong time will either need to wait in the virtual waiting room (on Zoom) or will have to be “declined” (on Google Meet), as the teacher is likely in conference with another parent and cannot admit anyone else to that confidential conversation.
Teachers will only be available at their scheduled conference times; please note that if you click into a session outside of your scheduled time, teachers will not be able to allow entry.
When you click into a session, the teacher will hear a doorbell ring and must click “allow entry” to start the conference; please note that this may take a moment (especially in the case of back-to-back conferences). You may need to wait in the virtual waiting room.
If you hear a doorbell sound within your conference time, that likely indicates the end of your conference session; we will have to be tight on our timeline (conferences are 20 minutes in length, unless previously communicated from school) to allow for the next conference to begin.
If you have scheduled a separate conference with a resource teacher, interventionist, etc, you will receive via email a link to that virtual meeting; if you have scheduled a combined meeting with specialists and the classroom teacher, you’ll use the classroom teacher’s link.
Can’t get into a session? Teachers will include their classroom phone number in their push of the virtual meeting link, and you can call their classroom and troubleshoot together to gain access to the meeting.
Unsure about how to use Zoom or Google Meet? Check out this short guide to learn the basics.
If you are uncertain of your parent teacher conference time, please reach out to Ashley Burger (aburger@d101.org)
Please exercise a bit of grace and good humor in the process; we know that technology makes our conferences possible this year, but is not without its challenges!
