Curriculum Focus
- Novel Study: This week we will be wrapping up our novel White Lilacs. We have spent the last few weeks reading this historical fiction novel that is centered around true events that happened in Denton, Texas in the 1920s. Our focus has been literary analysis including: plot structure and development, characterization, tone and mood, and theme. We've also discussed making connections between fiction and nonfiction texts, and relating the events of the novel to events that happen in real life.
- Procedural Writing: Students will write a "How To" essay that explains how to carry out a task. Students will choose a favorite family holiday recipe and explain how to make the dish for an imaginary family gathering.
- Persuasive Writing: Students will learn how to convince the reader to agree with their own personal viewpoint by using the three persuasive appeals: ethos, pathos, and logos. Students will write a persuasive essay on a topic of their choosing.
