Science
This week: We will continue learning about the 3 types of rocks! We will focus on the formation metamorphic rocks. We will also be completing the NWEA for science. Please make sure your student gets a good night sleep and eats breakfast/ lunch!
Our learning target for this week is:
Develop and use a model to illustrate that energy from Earth’s interior drives convection which cycles Earth’s crust leading to melting, crystallization, weathering, and deformation of large rock formations, including generation of ocean floor at ridges, submergence of ocean sea floor at trenches, mountain building and active volcanic chains.
Our essential learning targets for the quarter are:

- 6-8.ESS2.A.2: Construct an explanation based on evidence for how geoscience processes have changed Earth's surface at varying time and spatial scales.

We will be continuing to practice our paraphrasing skills. We will also begin to work on correctly citing sources to be able to form a bibliography.
Our learning target for this week is:
W1A. Conduct research to answer a question drawing on several sources, integrate information using a standard citation system.
Our Essential Learning Objectives (ELOs) for 3rd quarter: (RL = Reading Literature and RI = Reading Informational)
RI1D - Explain the central/main idea(s) of a nonfiction text and cite evidence of its development
W1A - Conduct research to answer a question, drawing on several sources; integrate information using a standard citation system. Gather relevant information from multiple print and digital sources, assess the credibility of each source, and quote or paraphrase the data and conclusions of others while avoiding plagiarism and providing basic bibliographic information for sources.
W2A - Follow a writing process to produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, style, and voice are appropriate to the task, purpose, and audience; develop writing with narrative, expository, and argumentative techniques.

Environmental Science
This week:
Our test for this unit will be February 6. Then we will learn how humans impact the environment!
Our essential learning targets for this unit:
- Analyze and interpret data to provide evidence for the effects of resource availability on individual organisms and populations of organisms in an ecosystem.
- Develop a model to describe the cycling of matter and flow of energy among living and nonliving parts of an ecosystem.
- Construct an explanation based on evidence that describes how genetic variations of traits in a population increase some individuals’ probability of surviving and reproducing in a specific environment.
