Mr. Posick's weekly email

June 20, 2013

End of the year

My apologies for not sending this email out to you last week. It was a busy week with 8th grade graduation and other end of the year activities. After having a few days to reflect on the year and all of the learning that took place. I would like to thank you for your continued support of Merton Schools. The teamwork of parents, staff, and students helps each school year be successful.

Library redesign

As you can see from the pictures below, we have already begun the library redesign. The custodial staff and library staff have done an amazing job of preparing the library for the asbestos abatement scheduled to begin next week. We are excited about the process and I will keep you updated throughout the process. Due to the asbestos abatement next week, there will be limited access to the Intermediate School. Don't forget to follow @mertonint on twitter for updates. You can also view tweets on my website (http://www.merton.k12.wi.us/faculty/PosickJ/twitter.cfm).

Celebration of the year

This year was a year of changes and celebration for students, staff, and families. 4th graders went 1:1 with netbooks. Now all of our students have access to technology throughout the school. Writer's Workshop was successfully added to all grade levels. ActNow, an anti-bullying program, was introduced to all grade levels. Block scheduling was added to 7th and 8th grade for Language Arts and Math every day and Science and Social Studies every other day. Health curriculum was also added back into 7th and 8th grade. We collected $350 for Sandy Hook Elementary School following the tragedy there on December 14th. We ended the year with an awesome Celebration Day and 8th grade graduation ceremony. Thanks to all who made these changes so successful.

Next school year

Next school year will be upon us before we know it. We have five sections of 4th grade with Mrs. Kircher, Mr. Kondrakiewicz, and Mrs. Meyer joining the 4th grade team of Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Lewandowski, and Mrs. Niemczyk after Mrs. Taylor's move to Florida. Our four 5th sections will have Mrs. Kasprowicz, Mr. Klink, Mrs. Schiellack, and Miss Susa (soon to be Mrs. Iwanski) as well as Mrs. Zimmermann. Our 5th grade looping team of Mr. Hanrahan, Miss Kreuser, Mrs. Reuter, Ms. Schmidt, and Mrs. Stolpa as well as Mrs. Rollefson as they move on in five sections of 6th grade. Miss Luberda and Mrs. Monson will be teaching PE while Mrs. Erato will be teaching music and Mrs. Bartelt will be teaching art to our 4th, 5th, and 6th graders. Our 7th and 8th grade team of teachers will have Mrs. Bartelt, Mr. Fleischman, Miss Francoeur, Ms. Frei, Mrs. Morowski, Mrs. Opperman, Mr. Pomeroy, Mr. Rheineck, and Mrs. Rosen as well as Miss Depies and Mrs. Rollefson as their teachers. We are in the process of hiring a Language Arts teacher to replace Mrs. Seeboth after her retirement. Miss McGinnis and Mrs. Erato will be teaching band to our 5th-8th graders and Mrs. Erato will be teaching choir to our 6th-8th graders. We have a great staff who is looking forward to another year of educating our children.

Important date!

As a reminder, our Open House for next year is scheduled for Wednesday, August 28th from 5:00-7:00. You will be able to meet your child's teachers for the school year. We will also have information about the Merton School Community Club (MSCC), ActNow, MAA, Dousman Transportation, and other cool Merton stuff. It is also the time to have your child's picture taken for their ID and the yearbook. We hope to see you there!
