Exotic or Large Animal vet

What do they do?

Zoo veterinarians have there hands in the care of wild and exotic animals in zoo or other wildlife-related places/ buildings. They examine, diagnose and treat zoo animals (who are often anesthetized for examination) and may perform surgery, administer medication, devise rehabilitation plans. They help plan animal diets, contribute to animal environment design and supervise the process of animals coming into the zoo.

Why did you choose this career?

I love being around wild animals and I would love to help out exotic zoos and such to make sure there animals are healthy and looking their best

Why I chose this career

I love being around wild animals and I would love to help out exotic zoos and such to make sure there animals are healthy and look their best for the crowds. And I have always wanted to be around tigers because there full of life and a true meaning of wild.

Skills Needed

Exotic animal vets have to have strong communication, to work as a member of a team, collaborate with other animal keepers, animal monitoring and care, the assistance of outside experts and colleagues for feedback and advice, encounter animal symptoms or behavior new to you. sensitive and caring outlook (important for anyone doing veterinary work because animals who are frightened or in discomfort require kind and attentive care) In addition, you'll need the physical adeptness, self-possession to work with large or dangerous animals, problem-solving, decision-making capabilities(helpful for diagnosis and treatment recommendations)

What Degree?

You h have to take a Masters degree or known as a medical degree

What branch?

Life! because you are looking at taking care of real wild animals.
