South Lebanon Elementary
February 2023
Notes and News from Mr. Brown, Principal
February is a busy time as we start to shift our attention to the Spring and preparations begin for the 2023-2024 school year. Our focus as we look ahead is on Kindergarten Orientation and Kindergarten Registration. On Thursday, February 9, 2023, we will hold Kindergarten Orientation for families who will be sending their children to Kindergarten next year. If you know of anyone who has a young child who will be starting school in the fall, please feel free to share this information and this newsletter with those families. It is never to early to welcome our new flock of Falcons to the South Lebanon family. For more information on Kindergarten registration, please see the information below and visit the district website.
With the mostly mild temperatures this winter, it is hard to believe that it is February. With milder than usual temperatures, kids tend to come to school without jackets. Please keep an eye on the weather forecast and be sure to send your child with the appropriate outerwear for outdoor recess. Our goal is to get the students outside everyday as long as weather permits, even when it is cold. We also ask that you label your child's jackets and lunchboxes with their names so that they can be returned. If your child is missing a jacket, sweatshirt, water bottle, or other item, please encourage them to check the lost and found bin in the office.
In closing, I would also like to remind our families that February 20, 2023 (President's Day) is a snow makeup day for students. As of now, school will not be in session on this day. If we would have a snow storm between now and then that would cause a school closure, you will receive communication from the district about the date that the day will be made up. Should you have any questions about any of the items in this newsletter or the events going on in our school please feel free to call the South Lebanon office.
Stay Warm,
Mr. Brown
One School, One Book
Thank you families for participating in South Lebanon’s first ever One School, One Book program! The excitement from the students for Fenway and Hattie was amazing and truly made it a fun month long event.
We are looking for some feedback from families on a very brief 3 question survey. If you would kindly complete it by Wednesday, February 15, that would be much appreciated. Thank you for sharing in this new family literacy program.
Physical Education News

Mark your calendar! The American Heart Association Kids Heart Challenge will be on Friday, February 17, 2023 during the school day. To get started, download the Kids Heart Challenge app in your app store to register or visit http://www2.heart.org/goto/SLFalcons
Your child will earn a red wristband just for registering online! Along with the wristband, there are various other prizes students can earn based on how much they raise. Our ultimate goal as a school is to have EVERY STUDENT REGISTERED ONLINE (this involves no donation at all). All money is due by February 24, 2023.

PTP Scholarship
The South Lebanon Parent Teacher Partnership is pleased to announce that we are sponsoring scholarships for Cedar Crest students who will be enrolling in any institution of higher learning. This scholarship is for any student who attended South Lebanon Elementary for at least their 3rd, 4th and 5th grade years at South Lebanon Elementary.
As a parent organization, we are an outreach of South Lebanon Elementary and we are actively involved with our school’s ideals. Many of our students have espoused these ideals while attending South Lebanon and we desire to honor those students who are pursing educational programs and associated fields beyond high school education. These scholarships are for all CCHS students who attended South Lebanon for their last 3 years of elementary schooling. Grade point average will not be the sole determining factor in scholarship selection. We encourage you to have your seniors who attended South Lebanon apply for these scholarship awards.
Please follow the criteria outlined in the attached information and application. An electronic copy can be found on the under the South Lebanon tab of the Cornwall Lebanon School District website. https://sites.google.com/view/southlebanonptp/home?pli=1
We plan to again offer (2) - $1,000 scholarships and have named one of the scholarships as the, “Stacey Seldomridge Pennington PTP Memorial Scholarship.”
Scholarship applications are due no later than March 1, 2023. Any questions can be directed to Blythe Heisey, bheisey@clsd.k12.pa.us
