Garden Road Parent Weekly #12
A Leader In Me School - 10/14/22
Dear Families:
I am very proud to share with you our Garden Road mission statement: We are empowered learners who lead ourselves and others to contribute to a better world. The color coded mission statement focuses on three areas: leadership (red), culture (green) and academics (blue), which are the foundational elements of the Leader in Me program.
We are also very excited to have been awarded a grant provided by the Orange County Office of Education to implement MTSS (Multi-tiered systems of support). MTSS is improvement science. Our task for the grant work is to analyze and improve our systems to give every child what they need to be successful in school (see graphic). If you have any questions or would like to join the MTSS team, please let me know.

Library News
This week in Library we participated in our region's premier literary program called One Book, One San Diego. It's presented in partnership between KPBS and over 80 public libraries, service organizations & educational institutions. Now in its 16th year, the purpose is to bring our community closer through the shared experience of reading and discussing the same book. Think of it as your student's first Book Club that has the whole city involved!
"We Are Water Protectors," Carole Lindstrom, illustrated by Michaela Goade (available in English & Spanish)
- Winner of the 2021 Caldecott Medal
- #1 New York Times Bestseller
Written in response to the Dakota Access Pipeline protests, “We Are Water Protectors” tells the story of an Ojibwe girl who fights against an oil pipeline in an effort to protect the water supply of her people. This vibrant picture book is inspired by the many Indigenous-led movements across North America. It issues an urgent rallying cry to safeguard the Earth’s water from harm and corruption.
