Good Afternoon Students, Parents and Staff,

It is a sunny Thursday afternoon and I hope that this newsletter finds you and your families healthy and safe. I will be brief in order to honor your time as a family. It has been a very rewarding week for us here at Stayton Intermediate/Middle school. We are heading into finishing up our 2019-20 school year with our distance learning. We are also planning and preparing for the 2020-21 school year, with master schedule work, student classroom placement and student forecasting.

We also just wrapped up two days of eighth grade drive through promotion. It was so good to see our eighth graders and the excitement on their faces as well as their family members faces. We had 110 of our 135 eighth grade students drive through and pick up their promotion certificates. They also received a promotion program as well as any other certificates that they might have earned throughout the year. We took a lot of pictures that will serve as a reminder of what we have accomplished this year. Seeing the kids was great for our soul as educators. I hope the students feel the same way. We have spent the last five years with this class and built some great relationships. As educators, that is what it is all about. Attached below are the promotion speeches from myself, Mr. Olson and ASB President Benny Perez. These will also be included in a slideshow that we will share with all 8th grade students and parents that will include the pictures taken at promotion. We plan to send that out to you next week.

For our students that are coming to us as fourth graders, I can’t wait to meet you. For our returning students, I look forward to continuing to meet your educational needs over the next few years. I miss your students dearly and miss my interaction with parents and the community as a whole. Thank you for all your patience, time and energy as we have navigated the remainder of our 2019-20 school year. We have learned a great deal, and have a long road ahead to get back to where we all want to be.

Take care everyone and I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Mr. Proctor

Big picture

We were notified by Lifetouch that our yearbooks will not arrive until after the last day of school. Once we receive them, we will make a plan for distribution. We have plenty of yearbooks available to purchase if you didn't buy one yet and would like one. Please bring your money to the SMS office Monday through Thursday and we will get you on the list to receive one. The cost is $14.

Students will be able to return their chromebooks to the SIS gym on June 9 from 10 am to 2 pm and on June 10 from 2 to 6 pm. Please make sure you bring all chromebooks checked out to your family as well as the chargers. Call the SMS office if you have any questions at 503.769.2198.

We still have just over 400 library books that have not been returned. We have a crate in front of the SMS office Monday through Thursday to return library books. This Monday, June 8, will be the last day for packet pickups, so if you are on our delivery schedule and have a library book please leave it on your porch by 11:00 am in a plastic bag as it looks like there will be rain.

Monday, June 8, will be our last packet drop off and pick up for those already on our delivery schedule. If you have packets to turn in and you are on our current delivery schedule, please leave it on your porch in a plastic bag as it looks like there will be rain.

Here is week 2 of the SIS/SMS Virtual Library! Each book and picture on the bookshelves represents a different link they can go to. This time the user name and passwords are directly on it and if you click on R2D2 it will take you to an online Star Wars escape room!
