Mr. Miller 8th Grade Assistant Principal-
This week we focused resetting expectations in the hallways, cafeteria and morning community time. We held town hall meetings on Tuesday to discuss the expectations in a smaller group setting. The majority of our 8th-grade students are demonstrating that they do have the maturity to follow the expectations. The total number of students in the hall freezes decreased by about 23% from the week of Nov (4-8) compared to this week Nov(11-15). Great job on rising to the occasion 8th-grade students. The focus now is on finishing the semester with their highest possible grades in all their classes. We have one more week before Thanksgiving and then 3 weeks when we come back before Christmas break. Students need to be in class early or on time, participating in all classroom activities and completing and turning in all assignments.
6th grade - Ms. Gordon
Teachers thank you for a positive week last week. This week I am looking forward to getting in your classrooms and conducting formal observations and classroom walkthroughs. Please continue to keep students engaged in meaningful lessons. Also, please press onward to build positive relationships with students this will decrease some behaviors and office referrals. Last week Mrs. Smothers homeroom was awarded an ice cream party because there were no referrals written. Which homeroom teacher will be next?
7/8 IC - Ms. Shipley
This week is Spirit Week. I encourage you to pick out one or two days, or the whole week to join the students in celebrating Smith-Hale. Students get tense during the holidays. Take time out to help them breathe, offer grace and offer engaging lessons this week. 7th and 8th grade Math and ELA teams will be having their data conferences with Prep-KC on December 9.
6th grade IC Update (Roberts):
This week we had our Math data conferences on Tuesday afternoon. It was a great session as all of our math teachers are doing an amazing job.
Grades were due Wednesday, therefore, we did not have formal PLCs this week in order for teachers to get all grades entered. I entered grades for both Ms. Martin and Ms. Stovall’s classes.
We also wrapped up our ELA Scrimmage 2.1 and we are seeing much more improvement in ELA testing scores. Hooray!
“The power of believing that good things will happen to your people, and communicating that to them–the self-fulfilling prophecy–is supported by much research.”
