Men of Distinction

Vol. 2, ED. 6, 11.1.2017

Mr. Owens believes...

"As a nation, we are in need of educating EVERY child to their highest potential. We need to offer an avenue of hope and accomplishment to help children reach their goals. Mentorship has always been a part of my life and I hope that I will be able to leave a legacy of building up children so they won't become broken men. May our children leave us and go out into the world and make it a better place." ~ Mr. Melvin J. Owens

"Choice, not chance, determines destiny"

Mr. Lanele Lindsey, Assistant Principal of Lewisville High School, shared some awesome life lessons with the Men of Distinction. Mr. Lindsey stressed it is never too late to get your life on the right track. He went from close to the bottom of his graduating class in West Memphis, AR to earning 5 college degrees and have a very successful career in the United States Navy. Thank you once again Mr. Lindsey for pouring into our young men.

October Lunch and Learn 2017

Our October Lunch and Learn session was lead by Mr. Jim Mustain. His lesson on Accountability was excellent. Mr. Mustain did an outstanding job of painting a picture for our students in a way they could relate to him and provided many examples of people showing accountability in everyday life. The mentors and MoDs got a chance to break bread together, thanks to Pizza Hut, and also communicate on ways they could hold each other accountable. Thanks again to the community mentors for making this possible.

MoD 1 on 1 sessions!

Good to see the community mentors with their MoD's across the building communicating about last week's topic, accountability, and catching up on their week. This is where relationships are built and real change happens. Shout out to the mentors who are attending extracurricular activities to cheer on their MoD. Many of the students are taking exams this week, so it was a good motivational push for our guys. I walked around and loved hearing some of the stories and the bonding experiences that are taking place. Great job men!
