Meet Our Teachers and Staff
Josh Durig
Grade: 3rd Grade Math
Years Teaching: 25 years
Most Memorable Teaching Moment:My most memorable teaching moment was when I was asked to give a former student her high school diploma. She came back and visited occasionally, but I had no idea that I made a big enough impact on her that she would want her second grade teacher to be part of her graduation. It was a great honor.
Favorite Teacher Growing Up: Mr. Barron, my high school Biology teacher and baseball coach. Coach Barron was tough and I had to work very hard in his class to earn a good grade. He pushed me to be the best I could be, and it prepared me for college.
Favorite Things (Favorite Beverage): Sweet Tea
Fun Fact: I spent several weeks teaching on the Navajo Nation (Native American reservation of the Navajo People) in Arizona during my student teaching experience.
Michelle Gernet
Grade: 3rd grade ELA
Years Teaching: I'm in year 11 of teaching and this is my first year at Hamilton Elementary.
Most Memorable Teaching Moment: I feel like I have so many amazing small moments. There have been many students I have worked with that hated to read because that is the area they struggled in. Whenever those students tell me they love reading now or when I see those moments where everything clicks I am just so proud and happy for theirs success. As a child I also hated to read because it was a challenge, but I had amazing teachers that helped me along the way. The moments when things become just a little easier for my students are my most memorable moments.
Favorite Teacher Growing Up: My favorite teacher growing up had to be my 8th grade teacher Miss Tidball. She made learning so fun and she really made me feel like I was able to be myself. As a student things didn't always come easy to me, but Miss Tidball was always calm and patient with me and really showed me what a great teacher looked like. From a young age I always thought I wanted to be a teacher but after having Miss Tidball for a teacher that is the moment I knew for sure I wanted to be a teacher. Every day with my students I really try to be the kind of teacher that Miss Tidball was for me.
Favorite Things (Favorite Beverage): My favorite beverage by far is coffee. I could have coffee all day every day!
Fun Fact: I was a 2 sport athlete in college (volleyball and track). To this day I love to run every day and play volleyball when I can!

Successful Habits, Big Emotions
While focusing on Habit 1: Be Proactive, we learned about emotions. We practiced identifying situations that cause big emotions, learning how to recognize when we are having big emotions, and how taking time to pause can help calm our bodies to help us make proactive rather than reactive choices.
Use these Emotions Cards resource and ask your learner to share how it feels on the inside when feeling each emotion.
View the Pause Plan and invite your learner to explain the pause plan and demonstrate how to use it!

Mission Statement
Every Ranger, Every Reason, Every Day!
EVERY RANGER. This phrase is meant to include everyone—every student, every staff member, every graduate and every community member. All of us working together.
EVERY REASON. The primary focus of every school system is the academic achievement of all students. Our staff and, by extension, our community take on the challenge of doing even more for our students. We educate the whole child. Whatever the need, whatever the issue, whatever the REASON we are going to work together and do the best we can for each other.
EVERY DAY. Thank you to our HLSD community for making our students a priority every day, and for always pitching in to help one another
