Prehistoric art was not as much of a art movement as it was a period in art history.
The prehistoric art was 70% contributed to hunters/foragers, 13% contributed to herders and stock raisers, and 17% contributed to farmers, livestock breeders, and people with an organized economy.
Main People/ Locations
The artist of this time period are unknown, due to the fact that there was no record made of the artist.
Prehistoric art was found in Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia, and the Americas.
Lascauk Cave Paintings
This piece is know as the "the prehistoric Sistine Chapel" and was found in a cave complex in southwestern France. It was created at least 15,000 years ago.
The Willendorf figurine is probably the most famous prehistoric sculpture in the world.

The Willendorf figurine is probably the most famous prehistoric sculpture in the world. It is from the Gravettian (25,000 years). She is interpreted as pregnant, obese, or both.
Chauvet Cave Paintings
This piece was fouund by a trio of speleologist in 1994. It is thought to be made in the Aurignacian, era (30,000 to 32,000 years ago).
Facts:
- The purpose of the cave paintings are not know.
- The oldest known cave painting was made about 35,000 years ago.
- There were not only cave paintings, but there was also sculptures, vases, rock engravings and iron engravings.
