Meet the New Principal
Michelle Spaeth
I grew up in West Bend, and I come from a family of educators. My mother, Yvonne Wietor, taught in the West Bend School District for 38 years. My dad, David, was a teacher and high school counselor and then transitioned into human resources. My brother, Ryan, taught for 10 years in West Bend. And my husband, Tony, is in his 26th year teaching in the West Bend School District.
I was hired in West Bend after earning a degree in Elementary/Middle Level Education with a minor in Language Arts from St. Norbert College. During my time at St. Norbert, I embraced opportunities to grow as an educator, a Catholic, and a person. I student taught in Australia in a Reading Recovery classroom and participated in various mission trips with my campus priest, such as assisting at St. Benedict the African Catholic School in Chicago. During my first two years of teaching, I acquired my Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction.
For the past 26 years, I have taught grades third-eighth in the West Bend School District, which has given me a deep understanding of the intellectual, social, and emotional development of children. I am passionate about helping students reach their full potential by building relationships with each child and his/her family. I’ve served in numerous leadership roles such as Chair of the Language Arts Committee, Team Leader, Content Leader, and I was currently in the process of pursuing National Board Certification.
Holy Angels School and Parish hold a special place in my heart. I've been a parish member since 1999, and my husband is a life-long member. Our children, Sydney, Christian, and Averie, are the fourth generation in the Spaeth family to attend Holy Angels School. I am honored to have the opportunity to share my expertise and promote innovation in education while continuing to maintain Holy Angels’ traditions and culture. I am committed to collaborating with school and parish families, staff, and Father Howard, and I look forward to working together as a Catholic community.

The committee is proud to report that a total of $16,000 was raised to be used towards HAS educational needs in the upcoming years. Special thanks to all the families and local businesses who donated raffle items, volunteer hours, and food items for concessions. Without your help, this event would not have been possible!
If you're interested in assisting on the raffle committee for the 2022-23 school year, please reach out to co-chairs Stacey Liebetrau and Julie Barnett. We look forward to holding the Gifts From the Heart raffle along with the Fish Fry next March.

Screen Free Week
May 1st - 7th
In Partnership with Advocate Aurora Healthcare, Froedtert Healthcare, Village of Port Washington, City of West Bend, and the Washington Ozaukee Public Health Department, we are planning some family friendly activities for our third annual Screen Free Week! Screen Free week is held every year in May, sponsored by Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood, as an educational way to get people up and moving and off of their screens. Studies are showing direct links between time spent on a screen and mental health concerns. The effects are showing in both adults and children. We are joining in again this year and educating about limits on daily screen time, and promoting screen free activities to help increase awareness and improve mental health in our communities.
During Screen-Free Week, millions of children and adults pledge to spend seven days screen-free. Instead of watching TV or playing video games, they tend to read, play, think, create, get physically active, and spend more time with friends and family. Studies show that children who watch less TV are more likely to read well and to be physically fit. Turning off screens also allows for more family time. Each week, American children spend more time in front of a screen than they do in school! Screen-Free Weeks is a great way to jump-start our kids into more reading, learning, and active play. It’s also a lot of fun!
Please see the attached flyer with our schedules of events, and take a look at our Facebook page, Screen Free Week Washington, WI. If you are able, please share this flyer with you staff and students.
