Glennwood Elementary ~ Where Learning Takes Flight

Holly Brookins, PhD, Principal ~ Jill Tolsma, Instructional Coach Karen Hearn, School Manager

Hello Glennwood Families!

We had a great week of teaching and learning at Glennwood! We want to extend a big shout-out to Kenji Bhatt, a kindergarten student, who will represent the City Schools of Decatur in the next round of the Young GA Authors Writing Competition. Kenji was the kindergarten student winner for Glennwood who went on to win the CSD district-level competition as well. Join us in congratulating Kenji on this wonderful accomplishment!

Tomorrow is Georgia Walk and Roll to school day! It is going to be a beautiful morning to get out and get some extra exercise before the start of school. I encourage everyone to participate. I would like to thank GL parent, Amanda McMillan for her dedication and hard work as chairperson of this important program over the last few years at Glennwood. We appreciate you!

Warmest regards,

Dr. Holly Brookins

Georgia Walk & Roll to School Day – TOMORROW!!

After a long winter hiatus, Walk and Roll is BACK, and it’s brought the warmer weather with it! Please join us on your feet, your bike, or your scooter (don’t forget those helmets!), and let’s show CSD how Eagles SOAR! Students who walk, bike or scoot will continue to enter at their grade-specific doors, where they will be counted, using our traditional marbles, by their staff door monitors. We will have incentives for participating this month! Don’t forget your masks on campus! And, each marble will still count towards students earning extra school-wide recess, with announcements made at virtual Community Circle! For additional details and a full Walk & Roll schedule for the year, please visit the Glennwood website.

*Walking School Buses are on hold (due to Covid) until further notice*

I humbly ask for you to share your experiences on this topic by answering a couple short questions. There will also be an opportunity for people to share their experiences during the Lunch N’ Learn. Calling all Kindergarten families! Let's make sure our teachers know how LUCKY we are to have them!

This year, PTA is asking each grade to sponsor two teacher appreciation activities to show our staff how grateful we are for all they do. In February, 2nd-grade families and the PTA cleaned, refreshed, and stocked the teacher/staff lounge to make sure our teachers have everything they need (please see pictures below). Thank you so much to all our families and volunteers who participated! We look forward to helping keep that space in great shape for our teachers to use and enjoy.

In March, we are asking Kindergarten families to help the PTA put together a "LUCKY" themed table of snacks, treats, beverages, and other goodies. Please visit the Sign-Up Genius link below to volunteer to bring in items and drop donations with Ms. Hearn at the front office Monday-Wednesday, March 14-16, during school hours. The PTA will set up this festive table for our teachers on Thursday, March 17.

Sign up here: "Lucky to Have Teachers Like You!" Kindergarten Sign Up

This is the second of two teacher appreciation activities Kindergarten will sponsor this school year, and we are asking all families to participate in at least one. If you haven't yet contributed, please visit the link above!

Email PTA Staff Appreciation Co-Chairs Cristina Stevenson (cristina.stevenson@gmail.com) or Haley Stevens (haleycstevens@gmail.com) with any questions. Thank you!
