Information & Updates from Homewood City Schools
January 3, 2022
Homewood Families,
We hope you have had a restful mid-winter break. We look forward to seeing all of our students back on Wednesday, January 5.
Throughout the break, Covid-19 numbers have increased in our state and nation. As we return to school this week, it is extremely important that all families monitor their children’s health before attending school each day. Students who have a fever of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher, are exhibiting signs of being ill, or are experiencing Covid-19 symptoms, should not come to school. Students who live with a family member that is Covid-19 positive should stay home unless fully vaccinated and asymptomatic.
If your child will be absent from school due to a Covid-19 exposure, please email your child’s teacher and school nurse. We will continue to closely monitor our school community and report our HCS weekly Covid-19 cases each Friday. Currently, facial coverings are welcomed in our schools but are not required. Please remember that HCS’ facial covering requirements will be determined by the matrix put in place in October by the Homewood Board of Education - If the district’s seven-day percentage of positive cases reaches 1% for two consecutive weeks, facial coverings will be required. Any changes in facial covering protocols will be emailed to families and posted on the HCS website on Friday afternoons.
During the break, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revised the isolation guidelines to shorten the amount of time individuals must stay home. While we review this information with public health officials, HCS students who test positive for Covid-19 should remain at home for 10 days. If you have additional questions, please contact your school’s nurse.
As we begin the second semester of the school year, we will continue to monitor our school community and update our families of any changes to our school protocols as needed. We are excited to see our students Wednesday and kick off the second semester of school.
Sincerely,
Dr. Justin Hefner
HCS Superintendent
