What's So Cool About Manufacturing?
For the second consecutive year, Upper Adams Middle School is competing in the annual What’s So Cool About Manufacturing video project. The group of seven students visited Pennex Aluminum Company in Wellsville, PA, where they interviewed staff and collected footage of the manufacturing process.
The group, consisting of Alexa Manzo, Arianna Zirk, Ellen Zimmerman, Erika Garcia, Natalie Trejo-Gomez, Paige Stewart, and Trinity Gordon, will compile this footage into a two-minute video demonstrating the facility’s procedures. Voting for the contest will be available in early February.
Students participating in the contest, hosted by MANTEC Inc., will be celebrated at an awards ceremony held at the Appell Center in York, PA on February 19.

Counselors Corner
I am underway with operation “Getting the Students Introduced to the New Online Career Portfolio System Called ‘Live It!’ (aka, “The Process”). Seventh grade students will be introduced to the system during Skills for Adolescence class, and I will be visiting the eighth grade classrooms in the spring semester for their orientation to the new system. The 8th graders will also have a presentation from their HS counselor, Bonnie Ott, on the high school course selection procedure during the spring semester. In the meantime, you may visit the online portfolio at your own convenience. Students and parents can access their account by using the student's school email as their username, and entering the password “canners24” for 8th grade and “canners25” for 7th grade. I welcome any questions about the career education we provide students at UASD, so feel free to ask! Easiest way to reach me is through my email: k.jenkins@upperadams.org.
Typically during this time of year, I also like to include tips for dealing with Holiday stress. Please visit the previous link to find an article filled with tips and suggestions to getting through a notoriously stressful time of year. Have a safe holiday season, and we will see you in 2020!

Seventh Grade Washington DC Field Trip
Dear Parents,
If you are interested in being a chaperone for the seventh grade field trip to Washington D.C. on May 14, 2020, please contact Mrs. Robison.
( b.robison@upperadams.org ) Due to the large number of students this year, we will not be able to take as many chaperones as we have in the past. This opportunity will be given to parents with clearances first and on a first come first serve basis. If you do not have clearances and would like to be on the waiting list, I would be happy to do that for you.
Thank you,
The Seventh Grade Team
Student Council
The middle school student council has been hard at work to make sure that you have a fun year! From having bake sales, to selling candy grams, and having school store every Friday. Student Council had a bake sale on December 18th and 19th with many tasty treats available! Thank you to all the students and teachers who provided an item to be sold! Student Council has also been selling candy grams for the past two weeks. If you have someone that you would like to give a present to, but you don’t know what to get then a candy gram is perfect! Simple but kind candy grams are a great gift and they are only 5 cents for each one! Also, something you can always count on from Student Council is the school store every Friday. Student Council has added new items since last year. Such as stickers, Juicy Fruit gum, and sometimes little snacks. So, if you haven’t been to school store then stop by and see what they have. Student Council is looking forward to making the next half of the school year just as good as the first!

Leo Club
The Upper Adams Leo Club has been busy with many different projects. They have meetings the first and third Mondays of every month. They recently assisted at the Arendtsville Elementary Paint Night in November. This month they have been planning many Christmas related activities. On Saturday, December 14, they volunteered at the Special Olympics dinner in Gettysburg. It was a fun time and the members enjoyed helping out. They also went caroling to certain nursing homes on Tuesday, December 17. This is something that they have done in the past and enjoyed doing again. They can’t wait to continue their volunteer work in 2020!

Diversity Club
The Diversity Club has been working since the beginning of the year to do what they can for their cause. One of the more recent and important activities was Mix It Up Day on October 22. This was the club’s first main project of the year. Mix It Up Day is something that took place in many different schools, and our school was proud to be a part of it. Being a part of this event even got the Diversity Club an article in the Gettysburg Times. The article was very well written and even featured some quotes from the eighth grade members of the Club. If you would like to check the article out Mrs Ehly has a few copies of the newspaper. Diversity Club has also started their message of the month that is very inspirational. The school can’t wait to see what they do next!

Chorus and Band
Please help to congratulate the marching band for placing 6th place at the Atlantic Coast Championships with a score of 89.25. They were also awarded with High Brass. The Winter Concert is on December 19th and starts at 7:00 pm. We ask that band students to be at the school by 6:15, and chorus by 6:30 at the latest. Indoor Drumline, Jazz band, and Indoor Color Guard have started, so wish they have a successful 2020 TIA season!

Theatre
The High School Cabaret was a great success. The Biglerville Theatre Ensemble has raised a little over $700 for the spring musical, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. We had nine amazing soloists, along with the high school’s Select Singers. Please come and continue to support the theatre ensemble and go see the spring musical on March 6th and 7th at 7pm or on March 8th at 2pm.

Robotics Club
Hello Robo fans
The Upper Adams Robotics club, which is a combined high school and middle school team, competed this past Saturday. The team placed 3rd overall.
Autumn Slaybaugh placed 3rd in the Turtle event.
Nick Lerew placed 3rd in the Sort event and 1st in the autonomous Piano event.
The team did very well competing against a field of all high school teams.
Way to go Canner Robotics.

Middle School Dance
The Biglerville Middle School dance had an overall thrilling environment. I enjoyed all of the music that was played because the students got to suggest the songs. In years before, we had a suggestion sheet for the DJ, but none of the songs we suggested were played. So, Mr. Brewer wanted to fix that complaint by having a box to put songs in, to then give it to the DJ to play. The whole experience changed drastically. More people were dancing, singing along with the songs, and the students were engaged, resulting in a more vibrant atmosphere. In addition, I noticed that more people were being less anti-social. The students were not hiding in the corners being reserved, they were dancing and talking to their friends. To sum up, I greatly appreciated the improvements that were made to our school dance to make it more pleasurable to the students.
