The Weekly Highlander

Tuesday is Halloween and students are allowed to wear costumes that follow the school dress code. We ask that students do not cover their faces in make-up, wear masks, or bring toys or replica weapons. Wednesday is Dia De Los Muertos and we will be celebrating with our students at lunch with fun activities and food. Students will be able to use their PBIS points to purchase items during these activities. Dino Dash is also coming up on Sunday, November 5th and there is still time to register at https://www.tpsf.net/dinodash so that you and your student can participate.

As we head into the holiday season we have several opportunities for you to support our community. We have the ASB Food Drive where we are collecting canned foods for Thanksgiving with Operation Warm Wishes. Please see the flyer in this newsletter with specific donations for each grade level. All canned foods will be collected in your student's first-period class. We also are supporting our after-school partner, The YMCA, with their annual Stockings for the Troops Event. Please see the flyer in the newsletter for needed items that can be dropped off by your student at the school library.

We would like to thank our families and students who have been patient as we have worked to schedule our High School Tutors after school. We have confirmed with the administration at Foothill High School that our Knights for Knowledge peer tutors will be at Hewes on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3 p.m. - 4 p.m. in the library.

The Hewes staff is recognizing HIGHLANDERS “H” FOR A DAY AWARD! Highlander for a Day is a program at Hewes Middle School that celebrates students for incredible moments in the areas of Respect, Responsibility, and Results.

Please welcome Mr.Acevedo, he is our new Campus Supervisor on our campus. Last year he worked at Peters Canyon Elementary School in Tustin as a paraeducator. He went to Columbus Tustin Middle School so he is excited to be working in TUSD. Please introduce yourself to him when you see him around campus.

FUN FACT: Mr.Acevedo LOVES Star Wars!

The YMCA is our service provider fo our after school porgram and is seeking donations for their annual program Stockings for the Troops. Please consider donating needed items that will be sent to our troops overseas. The attached flyer lists the items that are needed and they can be dropped off at the library. Thank you for your support!

This Friday, November 3rd will be the last day for 6th Grade students in their current elective wheel class. Their teacher will let them know the next elective they will be taking that will start on Monday, November 9. Students will also be able to see their updated elective in Aeries after the end of the day on Friday.

Intrepid escape room in Tustin has donated escape room visits to Hewes Middle School. We will be using these as student incentives and rewards. A HUGE Thank You to this business for their support and donation.
