Almost At Summer Break!!!!
Be sure to end the school year strong!
We are getting closer to summer break! Hope you all have made wonderful plans! But, until then, be sure that your student is coming to school, ready to learn! Be sure that they are prepared for their finals as well!
Listed below are just a few reminders:
- Bellflower Middle/High School does not permit any drop-offs or deliveries of food or other items. Please ensure that your student is prepared for the day when coming to school in the morning with their lunch, supplies, money, etc.
- Dress Code. Please be sure that your student follows the dress code and wears appropriate clothing and accessories. Bellflower hats are also the only school approved hat that can be worn at school. Also, students may not bring blankets to campus.
- No returning back to campus. If a student has an early release (7th or 8th period), once the student leaves campus, they may not return to campus. Parents - please ensure that your students are going home early if they have the early release.

Bellflower High's Summer College Readiness Program
The BHS College & Career Center is hosting a Summer College Readiness Program this summer to all Class of 2024 students. This is a great opportunity for students to start preparing for their senior year and for the college admission process. Review the flyer for Program dates. Below is information about the Summer College Readiness Program:
- FREE One week, 4-day College Readiness Program
- Each day of the program will consist of a career, college or financial aid related workshop
- Each workshop is an one hour and 30 minutes
- Students must select one of the program sessions and attend all four days
- Space is limited to 12 students for each session
Program Workshop Topics:
- Day 1: Transcript review & Career Exploration
- Day 2: Research Colleges & Create College List
- Day 3: Prepare for College Apps & College Essays
- Day 4: Financial Aid, Scholarships & Personal Essay

7th and 8th Grade Summer Camp
The Bellflower Unified School District will offer a Summer Camp from June 5 through July 28. Please see the following flyer for details and to apply.
The BUSD Summer Camps are available at each elementary school site, and for Bellflower Middle School students of grades 7 and 8.
Recap: Class of 2023 Decision Day & Senior Celebration
On Friday, May 12th, we celebrated our seniors who were accepted to 4-year universities with a breakfast event. Students received a shirt from the University they plan to attend in the Fall. At lunch, we celebrated our seniors who have made plans to attend a 4-year university, community college, trade school, or the military. All eligible seniors were invited to participate at the lunch rally.

Bellflower Unified School District Teacher of the Year
Join us in congratulating Mrs. Melissa Ellis on being selected as the Bellflower Unified School District Teacher of the Year! She has served the Bellflower Unified School District for 17 years, beginning as a science teacher at Bellflower Middle/High School, and progressing to become a full-time Career Technical Education (CTE) educator. She teaches Intro to Health Careers, Medical Assistant, Counseling, Mental Health courses and serves as the CTE department Chair, always making decisions in the best interest of her students. Mrs. Ellis has demonstrated exemplary leadership, commitment, and dedication to her students, creating a safe and nurturing classroom environment that is characterized by trust and high expectations. She incorporates numerous instructional practices such as collaborative learning and project based learning which fosters critical thinking while also building essential skills for real world application. Her classroom has even been selected as a model/showcase classroom for the Paxton Patterson company, recognizing her commitment and dedication to the CTE Health Pathway. Let us all take a moment to honor and congratulate Mrs. Ellis on this prestigious recognition!
8th Grade Promotion Information
8th Grade Promotion Information
Eighth Grade Promotion will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at 9:15 a.m. in the gymnasium. Seating will begin at 8:40 a.m. Since seating is limited, we are asking that only immediate family attend the program.
Promotion participation is subject to grades, attendance, and behavior. Additionally, students should be free from obligations to the library and ASB accounting office. Students must pass all six of their classes both semesters of their 8th grade year. If students do not earn all passing grades both semesters, they may still participate if they earn a combined GPA of 2.0 or higher for both semesters of 8th grade. A grade of D is considered passing. Please note that both first and second semester grades are factored into promotion eligibility.
Bellflower’s dress code for students will be strictly enforced. Students not adhering to dress code policy will be prohibited from participation in the ceremony. Appropriate dress includes clothes typically worn to a nice occasion. If there is a question about appropriate attire, please contact the middle school office.
Balloons, signs, banners, and any noisemakers will NOT be allowed during the ceremony.
Please enter and exit the school through the front gate or Nutrition Center gate. Security will be stationed at each gate.
Parking is limited, additional parking will be available for all families in attendance of the promotion ceremony at the Nutrition Center located behind the football stadium.

Link Crew May Development Day
Link Crew hosted their annual May Development Day on May 3, 2023. This event mixes the new leaders and current leaders for a day of activities, introductory lessons on how to be amazing leaders, and of course some fun!
Experiments in Mrs. Thiebert's Science Class
After learning about different types of reactions in Chemistry, Mrs. Thiebert's science class got to enjoy a sweet treat- making ice cream in a bag, which is a fun experiment that can be done with a few simple ingredients and the power of science! This event took place on April 28, 2023.
Introductory Lesson to pH Levels
On May 4th, Mrs. Thiebert's science class tried to determine what a variety of common household substances were by testing the pH level, looking at the substance, and sometimes spelling the substance!
Cerritos College Summer Course - MUSIC 104B - History of Rock
Cerritos College is offering Music 104B - History of Rock as a Summer Dual Enrollment course to all Bellflower Unified School District students in 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th grade. The class is from June 5th to July 7th.
- The class is fully online with no scheduled meetings.
- Students can receive High School Credit for Visual & Performance Art
- Students can also receive college credit and the units can be transferred to CSU/UC
- The class is totally free! Books are provided.
If interested in taking the course, visit the College & Career Center in Room 401 to pick-up a Dual Enrollment Form.
Swim Team!
Hello! If you love the water, know how to swim, or are interested in learning, please consider joining the Bellflower High School Swim Team next year. You will be a part of a fun and safe environment where you will make friends and learn a life-long skill that you will take with you wherever you go. Next year it will be a sports class during 7th period and will count as PE credits if you still need them. We will be practicing during the fall semester and compete against other schools during the spring. The swim team is open to grades 9-12. If you need more information please see Mrs. Clarín in room 104. Thank you and spread the words to those interested!
HS Yearbook!
Buy Your High School Yearbook Today: The high school yearbook is available for purchase while supplies last. Don't miss the opportunity to hold onto all the 2022-2023 school year memories. The yearbook is $95 and can be purchased in the ASB office or in the webstore. Only a limited number of books are still available for purchase now, which will be available for pick-up closer to the end of the school year.

Senior SELACO Training
2022-2023 Bellflower Middle & High School Scholarship List
The 2022-2023 Scholarship List is now available! The list has over 80 scholarships with deadlines from December to June. Scholarships are available for middle and high school students. There are merit and need-based scholarships. There are also scholarships specifically for graduating seniors, minority students, undocumented students, student athletes and different hobbies and career interests.
Winter break is a great time for students to apply for scholarships! Review the scholarship list carefully and apply to scholarships that you are eligible for. Remember, an hour of your time completing a scholarship may win you $1,000!

Senior Grad Week Information
Just a reminder that GRAD NITE tickets can no longer be purchased, as of 2/28/23. However, students can still purchase other Grad Week activities.
ELD Help
Starting in the 2nd Semester, Mr. Harrison (Room 704) will be offering an after school enrichment opportunity for all ELD students. It will be offered on Maroon days from 3:45 to 4:30. There is no set time. Students may come for 5 minutes or 45 minutes. This opportunity is available to help ELD students with simple questions, making up missed work in ELD, help on current ELD assignments, or having a safe and quiet place to do assignments. It is completely voluntary and is a drop by, informal approach. What it is not is a hangout place to socialize or play computer games.
Paper Tutoring
Did you know that free online tutoring is being provided by the BUSD district?
PAPER Online Tutoring isavailable for all students in 4th-12th grade through their Clever account. Students may ask tutors questions through the chat feature using the PAPER APP to get help with homework, feedback on their writing, or support with studying for assessments. The APP can be found in the Google Play and Apple APP store.

HelpNow Tutoring
Every Californian can now access free online tutoring at any hour of the day, thanks to a new initiative offering educational resources to K-12 students and adult learners. The resource is part of an investment in public libraries announced Sept. 12 by California Gov. Gavin Newsom. Real-time homework help is now available "on the websites of any of the 1,130 local public libraries around the state," and here. The HelpNow pilot program currently offers help in math and language arts, in English and Spanish, at any time of the day or night. Help for "other core K-12 subjects" is available between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. in English, Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, and Tagalog, with no age limit to who can take advantage of the resource.
