About Me:

My name is Andy Whicker, and I'll be your US History teacher this year! I gradated from Westfield High School in 2015, and from Indiana University in 2019 with a bachelor's degree in Secondary Education with a focus in Social Studies. This is my first year teaching in my own classroom, so I'm excited to put all of my teaching practice to use at Westfield!

History was always my favorite subject growing up, so I look forward to using my passion for teaching and history to help you succeed in this class!

Feel free to use my teaching website (linked above) as students and parents to stay up to date on what's going on in the classroom. you'll be able to find a class calendar, assignments, and announcements among other things. Never hesitate to contact me with any questions, comments, or concerns by email at educandywhicker@gmail.com or by phone at 317-867-6800.

Expectations:

Attendance: In order to learn, it is important that you make it to class whenever you possibly can. History is easy to fall behind in if you miss too much class. If you want to learn, you have to be here!

Work Ethic: You'll only get as much out of this class as you put in. You cannot expect to put in minimum effort and get a good grade. It's crucial that you complete all assigned homework to the best of your ability. While it is my job to teach you, homework assignments help you to solidify your understanding.

Respect: I expect you to treat me, your classmates, and yourself with respect at all times. Be open to hearing other people's opinions and thoughts with an open mind. Bullying or degrading others will never be tolerated.

Come to class with an open mind and be ready to learn!

Technology

I plan to use technology in my classroom in multiple ways, but the main way I'll incorporate technology is by allowing students to have their laptops and tablets in class.By allowing students to have their laptops in class, this lets them research and utilize online tools conveniently. Having a device opens students up to a whole new world of resources that would not be available without the internet. This also allows students to work at their own pace, and learn to manage time effectively. With a computer, there is also an accountability aspect. Giving students more freedom with technology can help prepare them for education beyond high school, where they must learn to manage time and resources effectively.
