These Shoes Are Too Big: Confidence, by Jodi Detrick, Author
I’m convinced our broken-hearted world needs Jesus-hearted women, and I’m pretty sure you are one of them. That face you see every day in the mirror? Yeah, it’s yours. But that stirring in your chest to use your gifts and abilities? That urgency to do something about the broken lives around you? Those dreams of how things could be different and what it might take to make them so? That’s the heart of Jesus beating in you. You are a woman with gifts and passions who can step up and make a difference – in the lives of others and in your own life. After all, a Jesus-heart inside means a God-adventure ahead!

Notes from Jodi’s Heart
If there’s one thing that often stops us in our tracks when it comes to the roles and opportunities God brings our way, it’s this: lack of confidence. I don’t know about you but it seems God always gives me a pair of shoes that seem way too big for me…then grows my feet into them as I’m willing to put them on and walk forward.
Life often asks us to step into roles that we don’t feel qualified to handle. But the Good news is that God has always been willing to use reluctant women!
A line in my favorite poem “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost speaks to me: “Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back.” Way leads on to way.
So when we step into those too-big shoes and start down the path, we end up on a true God-adventure – and guess what? Our feet actually start to fit into those shoes He asked us to put on. We also gain confidence along the way! Confidence grows as you go.
But the kind of confidence we are talking about is not an arrogant, “I’ve-got-this-thing-all-figured-out” attitude. Instead it’s a gracious confidence that brings out all those good things God has been working in us so that we can use them for the benefit of others without shrinking back in fear or negativity.
I love to see Jesus-hearted women who have a gracious confidence about them – they give me courage to put on the next pair of too-big shoes God is holding out for me, and to walk forward in trust.
Heart-Deep in the Word
Read the description of the virtuous woman in Proverbs 31:10-31. How did she display gracious confidence?
