This is your Captain Speaking!
Hello Staff,
We are so ahead of the curve in VBCPS and at Birdneck ES we are celebrating a week early. Happy teacher appreciation week! It is a pleasure to work with each and every one of you. I am blessed to work with such a dedicated and caring staff. It takes special folks to work in Title 1 schools and the Birdneck community is lucky to have you leading our kids. It is so very apparent how much you care about your students. They are fortunate to have all-star teachers such as yourselves. I hope you enjoy your treats this week and feel a bit of gratitude that you deserve from our school community.
Captain out,
RV Yoshida

READING ROCKS!
Similar to comic books, graphic novels weave rich, lively visuals with a limited amount of text to drive the narrative. They can be especially appealing to young readers who are reluctant to pick up a more traditional book. Graphic novels are a great way to help struggling readers strengthen vocabulary, build reading confidence and stamina, and develop a deeper appreciation of storytelling. The link below has more information about graphic novels.

Licensure: Technology Standards for Instructional Personnel (TSIP)
All teachers new to Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) are required to meet the Technology Standards for Instructional Personnel (TSIP) within the first year (12 months) of employment.
This is a licensure requirement for the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE).
Your TSIP requirement must be completed no later than: May 31, 2017
Between now and June 30, 2017, please work with the Instructional Technology Specialist (ITS) to identify the dates and times to take and pass the TSIP tests in your school. Make every effort to complete this requirement prior to the end of this school year.
Additional TSIP testing sessions will be made by appointment through the Department of Human Resources during the month of July 2017.
For questions about licensure requirements and other options, please email your licensure analyst:
