A CONSERVATORY PREP NEWS LETTER
WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 7-11, 2015
Today, the anniversary of 9/11 has been commemorated at Conservatory Prep Schools. The focus was on first responders, heroes and writing letters to our local police and fire fighters thanking them for their service.
Latin Club will be starting next week on Wednesdays from 3:30 - 4:30 to prepare students for the Florida State Latin Forum in Orlando April, 2016. Open to grades 9 - 12.
All of our classes are running smoothly and students are acclimating to the new routines. Students and families will shortly be receiving participation and academic grades via Thinkwave. Please check your email for an 'invite' to view the courses. All make up work will be posted on Thinkwave.
Next week we will be closed on Monday and Tuesday for Rosh Hashanah. To those families who observe, we wish you a Happy and Sweet New Year.

English III students Yakira, Ashley, Ryan S, engage in a round of the theatrical warm up exercise Zip Zap Zop to awaken their inner spirits and energize themselves before working on their interpretation of The Frogs.
DAY OF THE DEAD PLANNING COMMITTEE
Each year CPS students work with the Puppet Master Jim Hammond and Ft Lauderdale Puppet Guild to help build the themed puppets for The Day of The Dead celebration held in downtown Ft. Lauderdale.This year's parade will take place on November 2, 2015.

Language Exploration with Ms Rockett
The middle schoolers Kai, Stephania, Adam, Jennifer, Domingo, and Nikko continue to explore languages. Today they are "trying their hands" at Sign Language.
Latin Class Studies Roman Empire
Matthew, Kaitlyn, Richard and Jonathan investigate Trajan"s column depicting the Emperor's conquest of the Dacians.
Scrolls
The students are taking class notes and doing their assignments in scroll-form. The scrolls start with their own biographies and each day they add to their notes. They even add more paper when needed, in true ancient scroll form.

Ms. Rockett's class studied the Lascaux, Chavet, and Altimira cave paintings and then painted their own on real stone!

Genetics and Modeling
Jennifer, Stephania, Domingo and Adam and the rest of the 6 & 7th Graders were exploring concepts of DNA . They modeled strands of DNA using Twizzlers and Mini Starbusrts. DNA samples were collected from each student and they were sent off to the lab for analysis. Stand by for results.
