"One Day to Feed the World"
A Letter From Pastor Vistine
April 30, 2015
Dear Church Family,
If you have been in our services the last few weeks you will remember that we have been announcing that we are receiving a special offering for Convoy of Hope entitled “One Day to Feed the World.” It is an emphasis on the need of reaching the hungry and hurting across America and around the world.
Convoy of Hope is a ministry that reaches across this nation and around the world to inspire and educate and do something about reaching the needy. It started when Hal Donaldson’s family was in a terrible car accident several years ago when he was a teenager. His dad was a Pastor of a small Assemblies of God Church and died instantly and his mother was critically injured and spent many months in a hospital bed. Hal was the oldest brother and he had to take care of his other siblings. They survived because generous people in their church and community gave them groceries and helped meet their needs to survive.
As young adults Hal and his brothers decided to pay it forward and help other needy families around their city. They started with a pickup truck going to grocery stores and restaurants to get whatever food donations they could get to help those in need. This deep desire to help the needy has led them to this point of have a Christian organization where they can truly help the needy in many ways.
They are involved in the major cities in America doing “A Day of Hope” where they organize churches and businesses to come together and reach out to their community to show the love and compassion of Jesus to a hurting world. They not only do the Day of Hope; they inspire people in that community to keep reaching out to the needy every day even after they are gone.
They are involved in Rural America doing unique things to help people in small rural towns to meet the need of their communities.
They are in eight different nations feeding children every day and making a difference in very poor communities. They are also involved in putting in fresh water wells so poor communities can have clean drinking water in third world countries. They are involved in helping women learn a trade or business skill to help provide for their families.
Last of all, they are involved in Crisis outreach in the States and around the world. We have seen on the news about the earthquake in Nepal. Convoy is already organized and sending teams to that area to help those in crisis. They have become so effective in crisis relief that Washington D.C. has called them in to see how they do it.
I am asking you, as your Pastor, to prayerfully consider giving one day’s wage to feed the world and partner with Convoy of Hope to reach the hurting and needy. Get your family involved and talk to them and, maybe for one meal with your family, serve only a small portion of beans and rice to help your children realize that millions of children every day live on that one meal alone. We are blessed in America in so many ways and because God has blessed us we should be a blessing to others!
Proverbs 19:17 says this “He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord, and He will repay back what he has given.”
That is a promise from God that when we give to the poor we are lending to the Lord and He takes notice and will repay what we have given. God loves the poor and wants us to be compassionate and generous!
You are some of the most generous people that I know and I believe that God is going to lead us and bless as a congregation as we lend to the Lord by helping the poor!
May God richly bless you and your family!
In Christ’s Love,
Dave Vistine
