The Varsity Volleyball Team is on their way to semi-finals tomorrow after beating Sacred Heart in 3 sets!
"Today, we had the chance to cheer on our Volleyball team as they head to the State Semi Finals and will be rooting for them this weekend!" - Mrs. Lazar
Volleyball players elementary through junior varsity gave each of the "Magnificent 7" high fives for good luck before we sent off the team with signs, sirens, and cheers lining the street.
Send off to volleyball state finals!
"One of our 3rd grade students, Jade Salinas, designed and created (this display) for the Comet Clinic door. We are so impressed by her creativity, as she is very proud of what she created!"
- Stephanie Burns, School Nurse
"Welcoming Families for Thanksgiving lunch was fabulous! Thank you for taking the time." - Mrs. Suttmann
"Our crop of 100 salmon eggs have arrived in the upstairs biology lab! Currently, the whole group is in the "eyed egg" stage where students can clearly see the developed eyes, some of their vascular structure and, if you look really hard, their backbones! They should be hatching out sometime over the next week or so.
Your classrooms are more than welcome to stop up to see them whenever you want to wander through. If you want a lesson, I am happy to teach an activity based on your grade level and science curriculum-I have resources! Lessons would need to take place between 1:10-2:30p.
Also, up in the science classroom we have the usual distractions- bearded dragons, leopard gecko and our NEW hydroponic seed towers. I am happy to just provide a break to your group to view and wonder!
The lab is always open! :)" - Mrs. Zywicki

News From The Comet Clinic
When should a child stay home from school?
Our goal is to keep kids in school as much as possible. However, children may be excluded if the illness prevents the child from participating comfortably in school activities or if there is the risk of spreading harmful disease to others.
Criteria include:
· Severely ill: A child that is lethargic (extremely tired) or less responsive, has difficulty breathing, or has a rapidly spreading rash.
· Fever: A child with a temperature of 100.4°F or greater AND behavior changes or other signs or symptoms (e.g., sore throat, rash, vomiting, or diarrhea). The child should not return until 24 hours of no fever without the use of fever-reducing medications.
· Diarrhea: A child has two loose or watery stools. The child should have no loose stools for 24 hours prior to returning to school. Exception: A healthcare provider has determined it is not infectious. Diarrhea may be caused by antibiotics or new foods a child has eaten. Please contact your healthcare provider for further guidance. For students with diarrhea caused by Campylobacter, E. coli, Salmonella or Shigella, reach out to the school nurse for disease specific exclusion periods.
· Vomiting: A child that has vomited two or more times unless a healthcare provider has determined it is not infectious. The child should have no vomiting episodes for 24 hours prior to returning.
· Abdominal pain: A child with abdominal pain that continues for more than two hours, or intermittent pain associated with fever or other symptoms.
· Rash: The child with a rash AND has a fever or a change in behavior. Exclude until the rash subsides or until a healthcare provider has determined it is not infectious. For students with a diagnosed rash, please consult with the school nurse for exclusion dates and required clearance criteria. Note: Rapidly spreading bruising or small blood spots under the skin need immediate medical attention.
· Sores: A child with weeping sores on an exposed area that cannot be covered with waterproof dressing.
· Certain communicable diseases: Children and staff diagnosed with certain communicable diseases, including COVID-19, may have to be excluded for a certain period. Please consult with the school nurse for disease specific exclusion dates.

News From the Counseling Team
Move This World
Dear LPS Families,
To support our students’ social emotional needs and mental health, we are using a video-based social emotional learning (SEL) curriculum from Move This World. I’m excited to share that you’ll be able to access this helpful curriculum at home, too!
Social emotional learning is how students learn to process and manage emotions as well as important social skills. It includes everything from goal setting to stress management, and it provides both children and adults with tools they can use to express themselves authentically and safely. SEL helps students build healthy relationships, communicate effectively, and live a meaningful life.
Below, you’ll find log in instructions:

Practicing social emotional learning at home can help your students:
Identity and recognize their emotions.
Build critical social skills.
Connect with themselves and others.
Navigate challenges they may be experiencing.
Adjust to the new school year.
Move This World is a social emotional learning program delivered through an extensive online library of PreK-12 videos and resources rooted in creative expression that help students, teachers and staff develop a common language to improve communication and build trust. We’re so glad that you’ll be able to access Move This World videos and resources at home, and hope they are helpful for your student and family.
