Up 2 Date

GCJHS - November 8 , 2021

NEWS

1. Greenfield Central 8th graders will take the PSAT 8/9 this semester instead of the NWEA assessment. The PSAT 8/9 is the first test in the SAT Suite of Assessments--which also includes Indiana’s graduation assessment, the SAT. See the letter below for more information.

2. VETERANS’ DAY - November 11, 2021 . . . Due to COVID19 restrictions this year’s program will be done virtually. The Student Council has planned the 2021 Veteran's Day program and students will watch it in their homeroom class that day. Once again, it will be virtual, but we hope to provide a new and fresh take on our previous programs! In next Friday’s Cougar Connection you will have access to the video program to view at your convenience.

3. Friday, November 12, will be a planned e-learning day for all Greenfield-Central Schools. Students will not report to school and will complete learning activities from home. Teachers will be on-site for professional development, and they will communicate times for office hours to students. There will be a second planned e-learning day on Monday, February 14.

4. After school transportation changes -- If you need your student to ride a different bus on a particular day, please communicate this in writing to the school office by 3:00pm. This will allow us to get a note that your student can present to the bus driver. If your student will be changing from bus rider to car pick-up, or vice versa, you would only need to communicate that change to the office if you need us to notify your student at school.

5. Are you in need of Food Support? Check out the Food Support Resources 2021-2022 document in the download section below to find locations and times for specific food support.

6. Hancock County Christmas Connection- matches families with a variety of resources available to families in Hancock County for the holidays. Depending on family needs and resources available, families may be assisted through a donor program (where a family is “sponsored” for the holidays) or a community service group program (assistance provided according to service group guidelines). Attempts will be made to serve every family in need of assistance, but please know that completion of this application does not guarantee that your family will receive holiday assistance.

7. Applications for holiday assistance will be available in Student Services from November 1-19. If you have any questions regarding the program or applications please contact Kristy Tweedy, School Social Worker, 317-477-4616, ktweedy@gcsc.k12.in.us

Your Legacy. Their Future. Our Board President made a special ask to help grow the GCSF endowment. Your legacy gift is a testament to your commitment to our schools and investment in children who haven't even been born yet. Building the endowment allows GCSF in thinking long-term and building assets for its future sustainability. Distributions from the endowment can represent a large portion of the operating revenue allowing your donations to go straight into the classrooms. Your gift today will ensure programs continue 25 years from now and beyond. Go to https://gcschoolfoundation.com/donate.

INDIANA STATE CHAMPIONS!

On Saturday, the Greenfield Central "Cougar Pride" Marching Band competed in the State Finals contest held at Lucas Oil Stadium. The Band had an extraordinary performance, successfully defended their title from 2019 and are again Indiana State Champions!

We'd like to recognize the efforts of our 8th graders who are members of the Marching Band. They have put in over 400 hours of practice time over the summer and fall, and now their hard work and dedication has paid off with another championship for the GC Band.

SCHOOL LUNCH REVIEWS

BY ANNA STUDER

WELCOME TO SCHOOL LUNCH REVIEWS! MY NAME IS ANNA STUDER, AND I AM A FOOD CRITIC. I HAVE BEEN TAKING PHOTOS OF MY LUNCH SINCE THE THIRD MONDAY OF SCHOOL. I don’t want to make the lunch ladies look bad, because they have to make lunch for 600 students a day, and the government won't let them make things that they could last year, so imagine how difficult it must be. THEY WORK SO HARD, AND I JUST WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT. Today is a special review. I went into the kitchen(with permission), and saw how the ladies make and keep food. I also took many pictures as seen below. In that case, there are no food reviews this week, but don’t worry, there will be next week. I HOPE YOU ENJOY!

Big picture
This is Mrs. Angot. She is the cafeteria manager. She is in charge of ordering, overseeing, and making the food we eat. She orders all the ingredients that go in the food, oversees the preparation of the food, and she makes some of the meals. In picture 12, there are wraps and salads she made for students. There are 3 known non-gluten kids they serve. For them, they have special bread, buns and pizza they can eat on the days when we have them. The d-lunch 8th graders really have it bad in terms of what’s left for them to eat at the end of the day.Mrs. Angot is also in charge of all lunch ladies(L.Ls). The kitchen does not have a dishwasher, so one L.L does the dishes. The big refrigerator-looking things are heaters. After they make food, the L.Ls get to school at as early as 4:30 am and start making food. The food is going to be cold by lunchtime, so they wrap the trays for burger patties and things in Saran Wrap so they don’t dry out, and put them in the heaters on trays until lunchtime arrives. They are still making food at 9:30 because they have to make breakfast and two choice meals for lunch.

I am now doing one food meme each week, and one restaurant food review every other week.

Enjoy!

This is a Harry Potter meme I found on the internet. Cute, right?

Restaurant Review by Anna S.

I had my first burrito from Chipotlé! It is advertised as the Twenty Øne Piløts Burrito, per its association with the band. It contains corn salsa, tomato salsa, queso blanco, lettuce, chicken, white rice(with cilantro), and some sort of shredded cheese. It is so darn delicious. Anyone with an extra $11 should get it. WARNING: this burrito is huge. I ate one half for dinner one night, and the next night I had the other half. There is a commercial specifically for this burrito by Twenty Øne Piløts on YouTube. It’s hilarious! We also got the handmade tortilla chips and a side of pico de gallo, pronounced pee-koh duh gi-oh(tomato salsa that is also on the burrito). YUM!!!!
