Get Caught Reading Photo Contest

Wednesday, April 1st, 8am to Friday, April 24th, 3pm

Sabine Elementary School Library

According to the Pet Savers Association, "Reading to a pet provides a relaxed atmosphere, which allows participants to practice reading skills. It also builds self-esteem and confidence and provides an environment for children to link reading with a positive association: a connection to a pet. The presence of a pet provides an opportunity for struggling readers to develop skills and discover the fun of reading.” Other benefits include a reduction in stress and anxiety. Children are able to read at their own pace, pets do not pass judgment, laugh or criticize the child as pets are less intimidating than the children’s peers. Reading to any pet such as a dog, cat, bird, rabbit, horse, lizard, hamster, fish or even a plush pet gives every child the opportunity to participate in the photo contest.
