Important Message from BHS Nurse Stacy Eaton
A message to parents & students:
We are seeing a large number of students coming to school sick as well as a significant increase in our covid cases.
Please remember to keep your children at home when they are ill. Failing to do so puts other students and their teachers at risk.
If your student has possible signs/symptoms of covid (fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestions or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea) please have them test before coming to school. If your student tests positive, notify the health office and attendance office as soon as possible.
Please be aware of the following Burbank Unified guidelines for exclusion:
- Fever over 100 degrees
- Students with a fever should not return to school unless they are fever free, without taking fever reducing medication, for 24 hours.
- Signs of an acute cold and nasal discharge.
- Cough when accompanied by other signs of illness
- Nasal discharge when accompanied by other signs of illness
- Any sign or complaint of inner ear discomfort/pain or drainage.
Other symptoms for possible exclusion:
- Vomiting or nausea at home or in school
- Diarrhea
- Chills
- Headache
- Listlessness and marked pallor
- Stomach and/or abdominal pain

(2) COVID Tests Sent Home With Every Student
Last week, all students received a package containing (2) COVID tests in their Period 2 classes. Please note that while the expiration date printed on the boxes may have passed, we have been given clearance that these tests last 6 months past the printed expiration date.
If you child did not receive these tests last week, they should first check with their Period 2 teachers. If the teacher has no extras, students can come to the Main Office to pick up a test.
Please have your child take one test before returning to school after Thanksgiving Break, and save one test to take before your child returns from Winter Break in January. If you child has a positive test result, DO NOT send them to school. Please contact school nurse Stacy Eaton for additionally information and instructions.
Narcan/Naloxone to Be in Health Offices of all BUSD sites
Thanks to the hard work of BUSD School Nurse Lenora Aguilera, our schools will have Narcan/Naloxone in all health offices. We will be acquiring more Narcan for District Office, DSC, and for student field trips and events.
In addition to acquiring Naloxone and creating protocols, our health services staff has already been trained on the use of Naloxone in the event of an opioid overdose. All principals and assistant principals will soon be trained, as well. It’s a very simple process and one I hope we never have to use.
The link below is a good summary of how to administer Naloxone/Narcan (nasal spray) and gives basic information about the opioid crisis.

***CORRECTION to Reporting All-Day Student Absences***
Due to a few glitches with the new Google form system we tried out for attendance, we have decided to change the format for reporting all-day attendance. Sorry for the change and any confusion, but we think this will be the easiest way to handle reporting these absences.
- Notification must come from a parent email.
- Notification is for an all-day absence (not for arriving late, or requesting to release a student early).
- Student first and last name.
- Student grade.
- Student 5 digit ID #.
- Reason for the absence.
- Parent phone number.
- Students with last name beginning with the letter J – R email jennifervardanian@burbankusd.org
- Students with last name beginning with A – I and S – Z email lindabitto@burbankusd.org
