HIDDEN RIVER HEADLINES 5/2/19
9224 Paradise Lake Road, Snohomish, WA 98290
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Greetings HRM Families,
Welcome to May and I hope this newsletter finds you well. It's great to see the sun about to make an appearance for more than a day or two in the near future … we definitely are long overdue around here! Most of our students wrapped up the first round of state testing this week, specifically for Math. We had a completely different schedule this year with everyone testing at the same time across the whole school and it went much better than before - wrapping up in two days instead of two weeks, which is awesome! We are extremely proud of the kids for being focused and doing their best. Thank you for your support around testing on the home front.
Last week our staff celebrated our continued progress as a school as the state just recently finished up their analysis of the testing data from the 2017-2018 school year. I've pasted a small snapshot of this data below, which shows our progress as a school over the past 5 years. This is significant for us because it shows that the coordinated efforts of our staff and families has made a tremendous difference for our students. Five years ago we re-casted the vision of the school we wanted to become and this data is a great point of celebration for us that we are headed in the right direction. While I always like to point out that we still have a long way to go, taking a moment to celebrate the efforts of our school and community is extremely important. None of this progress would ever happen without a committed, self-less staff and a parent community that is highly supportive and engaged with us on this journey. So … thank you! Here's to continued progress as we aim for greatness here at Hidden River. Go HAWKS!

HRM SMARTER BALANCE ASSESSMENT INFORMATION
Headphones/Earphones: Portions of the test require students to listen to audio information, so students will need earphones, headphones or earbuds. We will have extras available for them to borrow, but we encourage students to bring their own.
Testing Accommodations: Students with IEP's, 504 plans or other specialized testing accommodations will have access to those same accommodations for the SBA.
Test Prep Tips: To maximize student success on any test, it's important they get a good night's sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, arrive on time to school and be stress free on test day. Please help them prepare well and encourage them to do their best!
Snacks: The school will have some snacks provided by the PTO available, as well as our typical breakfast items. However, please consider sending a healthy snack with your student as well.
Books: Students typically work at their own pace, therefore complete testing at different times. Please work with your student to make sure they have a book with them they can read. They will not be able to access technology during test sessions once they have completed the test. Please have them swing by the library to check out a book in the next few weeks.
Questions: If you have any questions or concerns, please contact one of the administrators or your student's teacher and we will assist you. Thank you!
The following weeks will be impacted by state testing:
● April 29 - May 3: SBA Math
● May 6 - May 10: SBA Math Make-ups (no schedule changes this week)
● May 13 - May 17: SBA ELA
● May 20 - May 24: Science WCAS (taken in 8th Grade Science classes)
Please make sure you consider these dates in your spring calendar planning, and communicate with our office if you have any questions or known absences for your student during these weeks.
