Unit 2: Geometry-2D Shapes
This unit bundles student expectations that address identifying two-dimensional shapes and their attributes, classifying and sorting two-dimensional shapes using formal and
informal language interchangeably, and creating two-dimensional shapes.
Important things to note:
- Students are responsible for identifying and naming the attributes of circle, triangle, square, and rectangle
- Students are responsible for knowing that a square is a special rectangle because it has all the same attributes as a rectangle. The only thing different is that all sides are the same.
Suggested Pacing is included in the Unpacking Document
Here is the Unpacking Document we recommend in the math handbook. I have already started filling out a couple of things for y'all. Remember that this is just a suggestion and you need to be responsive to your students and the needs of your team.

Remember, you have to be logged in using your Wylie Google account.
To add this folder to your drive:

Why should you do this?
- As I update the files in the folder you will have access to them as soon as changes are made
Kicking Off Math Small Group and Stations
You should be finishing up the Kicking Off Stations and Small Group Guide with days 16-20 during this unit. These days are truly meant for you to be tweaking and starting to pull small groups. This is a great time to be working on making sure numbers to 5 are solid and doing a little bit of shapes at teacher table as well.
Rethinking Calendar Time
Calendar is an important life skill that our students need, however it is not a math TEK. So when should calendar be done? The skills that are related to calendar are actually covered in Social Studies. So, I would challenge you to think about using these minutes that had been done in math and do them in Social Studies which would allow you to do more problem solving, numeracy, number talks, and counting during your warm-up time.
Social Studies TEKS:
- K.3A – Place events in chronological order, including calendar, today, tomorrow, yesterday, etc.
- K.3B – Use vocabulary related to time and chronology, including before, after, next, first, last, yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
