District Reopening Information: New Items Added (FAQ/Transportation/Food Service/Technology)
After receiving the New York State Department of Health and New York State Education Department’s guidance document earlier this month, the West Genesee Central School District started working to adopt the model and create our own Reopening Plan.
West Genesee formed a COVID-19 Task Force early this year which has been exploring options for the safe reopening of our schools. The District has also been working with a regional group of school districts through OCM BOCES to share information and best practices. Based on the committee’s recommendations and the regional group’s work, in accordance with the new state guidelines, West Genesee submitted an initial plan to New York State by the July 31 deadline.
Below is additional information concerning the reopening of schools. Please note items that indicate they have been recently added, updated, or revised.

Adult Education and Driver's Education Update
Adult Education
The Adult Education Program will have a delayed start this school year due to COVID-19. The need to thoroughly clean our school buildings each evening for students and staff will be a priority. The Adult Education webpage will be updated with information regarding the restart of our valued Adult Education Program.
Driver’s Education Program
There have been no guidelines released from the NYS State Education Department regarding the Driver’s Education Program at this time. We are monitoring this closely as one of our highest priorities is to provide Driver’s Education to our students as soon as we have clear guidance.
Please note: this refers to the Driver Education Program, which upon successful completion will earn the student an MV 285 (formally known as a blue card) and an insurance reduction certificate. This DOES NOT refer to the 5-Hour Pre-licensing course that all new drivers need in order to schedule a road test. We will offer the 5-Hour Pre-licensing course along with the Adult Education Program restart.
Please contact the Director of Adult Education, Lynn Magoulas, at lmagoulas@westgenesee.org with any questions.
