Southwest Elementary Newsletter
February 2023
A Note from Mr. Hofer
Parents/Guardians,
I hope this newsletter finds you and your family well. We are now in the middle of winter and Mother Nature seems to be reminding us on a regular basis that she can shut us down pretty quickly.
Our students completed the winter MAP reading and math assessments the week of January 17th. We use this information as a way to check the progress of students about half way through the year. We are really excited to see the progress students are making. The growth we have seen so far is encouraging and we to strive to help each student reach his/her full potential.
Skyward is where all our parent contact information is kept that is used for Schoolmessenger. Please make sure that you keep your contact information up-to-date in Skyward so you don't miss any district updates.
I wish you a safe and healthy February!
Take care,
Brian Hofer
Southwest Principal
Your Feedback Is Important! 5 Essentials Survey
Please take a moment to fill out the confidential 5 Essentials Survey. You can take this survey by going to our main website- www.geneseoschools.org. An immediate pop-up window will come up on how to take the survey. Your feedback will allow us to celebrate what we are doing great, as well as give us information on how we can continue to improve.
I know a lot of times when things are "great" feedback is not seen as necessary or important to give. However, we want to hear and celebrate this feedback as a school! Please take a few minutes to give us your thoughts! We appreciate and value your input.

Changes in Transportation
If your child has a change in their normal routine for transportation:
- Please send a written note to your child(ren)'s teacher informing them of the change.
- Indicate on the note the name of anyone other than yourself that may be picking up your child.
- If the change happens during the school day, a call needs to be made by 1:00 pm in order to ensure communication and changes get relayed on time.
- Do not email transportation changes to your child's teacher as they may not be able to check their email during the school day.
