Info for Class - January 25-29
Our focus this week will be the Great Kindness Challenge. I will go over the checklist and encourage all students to participate. We will also do a lesson over the importance of kindness and the effect it can have on others around us.
Great Kindness Challenge 2016 - January 25-29
Tuesday - Let Kindness Brighten Your Day (Wear bright/neon colors)
Wednesday - Exercise Your Kindness (Wear workout gear/ sweat suit/ track suit)

Checklists were placed in your mailbox. If you need more, please let me know. At the end of the week, have students bring their checklist to you. We will determine the Kindest Class of Madison Elementary." I will see what class had the highest percentage of tasks completed. Please encourage all students to participate. I really think they're going to love this!
You Rock at Kindness
My lesson this week and next week will focus on the rock. We will use water to see how a rock has a ripple effect. Kindness impacts everyone around us. Each teacher will get to keep the rock I use in class. It's just an ordinary rock. Nothing special. It has YOU painted on it. Get it... You Rock. I remember when I had edmodo my students always tried to win the You Rock badge. They got it by doing something awesome in class. Since we don't have a digital way to give out rocks, we'll use real rocks.
When a teacher catches a student doing something kind, they get to have the rock at their desk for the rest of the day. It must be returned at the end of the day. Kids love recognition. Plus this is a great way to bring recognition to the kids who really need some.
Students cannot tell you they did something kind. I always remind the kids they can't ask for recognition for something they did. They must be caught doing something kind. They will also receive a rock sticker. The goal is to collect as many rocks as possible throughout the school year.

January -- Generous
Generosity can be described as freely sharing what you have with others. It can be an item, help with something, or even time. To be generous means giving something that is valuable to you without the expectation of a reward or return. It can be difficult to be generous; it is in our nature to keep good things for ourselves. However, I encourage all of our students to practice this character trait. Luckily they attend a school where the staff are masters of it.
If you already have your January student in mind for this trait, you may go ahead and submit their name!
