Detailed Information
School Aged Child Care (SACC):
School Aged Child Care hours are 6:00-8:14 am and 3:12-6:00 pm. Questions about registration should be directed to Croswell Childhood Center (586) 752-0314. SACC entrance can be found at the back (southside of the building/entrance #8).
Breakfast Program:
7:50-8:14 am Children are to enter the main entrance and head to the cafeteria.
Line Up:
Students may not arrive prior to 7:50am! There is no supervision prior to 7:50am. Students dropped off after the first bell at 8:14 am should enter the front doors of the building. Kindergarten students will line up on the blacktop next to the bus loop. Lower elementary students in grades 1 & 2 will line up on the playground across from the swings. Upper elementary students in grades 3, 4, and 5 will line up near the back and side of the building. Students are asked to line up by room numbers at their designated doors. Parents will NOT be able to enter the building through any other door than the office for safety reasons. On the first day (other than Kindergarten drop in times), we ask that parents do not come to the classroom as it makes the transition much more difficult for the child.
Snacks for School:
Most classrooms have a break and snack period. Great choices for snack include: fruit, vegetables, cheese, crackers, granola bars, pretzels, yogurt etc. Water bottles are allowed as well. Classroom teachers will further address snack times and policy in their classrooms.
Recess:
Students will have recess daily. Please ensure proper footwear is worn to school each day. For physical education students must wear closed-toed shoes to participate.
Suggested School Supplies:
School supply lists for all grade levels can be found on our website. The drop down 'School Supply List' is near the bottom of the page.
Medication:
Students that are required to take medication at school must have a completed form turned into the office for the current school year. Medication must stay in the office and not in the child's desk nor backpack. Medication forms can be found on our website. Click here to be directed to the website for forms. (Please see information under the 'Parents and Students' tab).
NEW Student Code of Conduct:
Student expectations for Romeo Community Schools can be found online. Please visit the 'Parent Students' tab on our website to review the dress code, attendance policy, discipline policy etc.
Parking Lot Safety
Key Agreements:
Families drop off in the drop off areas only. Our goal is to create a long drop off line along the sidewalk from the doors down by SAC/green yellow recycle bin, all the way until our blue school sign. Thus, many cars/students can be dropped off at once.
Parents do NOT go in the bus loop.
Parents nor students will walk in between busses even if the busses are parked.
If you choose to park and walk your child to their morning arrival spot, use caution and watch for vehicles from the drop off lot. Abide by all regular parking rules, including leaving handicap spaces for drivers with the proper designation. Do not block driveways or the bus loop.
For pick up, students will NOT need to be signed out from the cafeteria at the end of the day. Instead, look for your child’s designated area in the cafeteria where your child will be waiting and adults will be monitoring. Please use the tables located with their grade level. The more we have parents following this and sitting, it will be easier for your child to spot you!
The cafeteria will be supervised by a HP staff in the mornings for breakfast participants and after school for dismissal. Please respect the safety of our children and only enter the cafeteria. Do not enter the rest of the hallways/building at this time. Waiting in the foyer will not be permitted.
Upon arrival, students will line up in the following areas:
On inclimate weather days, students will sit in the hallway outside their classroom doors. Please walk slowly as you enter the building.
Everyday to line up, students can walk around either side of the building to get to their line up locations.
Kindergarten will line up outside their classroom doors.
Grades 1st - 2nd & Ternes/Ward & DeGiulio: outside of playground doors near (door #23).
Grades 3rd - 5th: outside of gym doors (door #16).
Dismissal procedures:
Anyone picking up your child before school ends must be on your child’s emergency card and must come with a photo I.D. NO EXCEPTIONS.
Please EXIT the cafeteria at dismissal time from the MAIN ENTRANCE doors only.
You MUST always communicate your child’s dismissal plans with your child’s teacher, preferably at the beginning of the day via a note sent with the student. Staff emails are not often checked for this information throughout the day. Should plans change, please notify the office as soon as possible.
In the end, Ham-Par staff and families agree to all “wins” to promote safety, consideration, and student convenience in student drop-off and pick up lanes.
Kindergarten Staggered Start
The transition to kindergarten is a big event for children and families. One step the Romeo Community Schools has taken to ensure that the school year gets off on the right foot is to stagger when kindergarten students start. The staggered schedule is designed for children to become familiar with school in a supportive environment, first with a parent and then in a smaller group setting. Experience has shown us that the small group setting reduces anxiety and allows teachers to help students feel more successful with classroom routines and school procedures. The kindergarten staggered schedule for the beginning of the school year is outlined below.
Tuesday, September 4
Kindergarten students do not ride the bus. Children come with a parent for a classroom visit of about 30-60 minutes any time during the hours: 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. This will allow you to meet the Kindergarten teacher and help ease the comfort level of your child to attend school (most likely) for the first time. Your child's teacher will be asking about your child's regular pick up schedule to ensure they are aware of what will be happening at dismissal on a regular basis. Changes to this schedule need to made in WRITING. While we believe kindergarteners, being five sometimes we don't always get the message correct. To ensure safety, we ask that changes be made in writing to the child's teacher.
Wednesday, September 5
Only students with last names A-L attend school for a full day. Children may ride the bus and will need to pack or buy a lunch.
Thursday, September 6
Only students with last name M-Z attend school for a full day. Children may ride the bus and will need to pack or buy a lunch.
Friday, September 7
All kindergarten students attend school for a full day and begin their regular schedule of our all day program.

Parents At Work in our School (P.A.W.S.)
What is P.A.W.S.?
The HP P.A.W.S. group is a parent-based community working towards school events and improvement for our students/community; a fancy name for PTO.
Who can be involved?
Any parent, guardian, grandparent and/or caregiver looking to invest time and effort in helping to make our school great. Many view points and hands make our P.A.W.S. unique and spectacular!
What do we do?
We are responsible for bridging the gap between families and the school. We provide many projects and activities to get children and families involved outside of the normal school day. Some activities are free of charge and some help raise money to be used towards needs in our school.
What do the funds raised go towards?
During previous years, P.A.W.S. was able to provide Leader in Me funding, purchase new playground equipment, easels throughout the school, new tables and chairs for our upper el classroom pod areas, books for the library and books for the classrooms….and much more!
