Message from the Principal
Hello Raptor Families!
September certainly flew by! We did have a few last minute registrations (and continue to), so we have had to move some students in order to keep in compliance with the Ministry guidelines for class size. A big welcome to Mrs. Burke, our newest staff member! As always, we encourage you to reach out to your child's homeroom teacher if you have any concerns. Email addresses can be found below. As we continue to move into Term 1, supporting our students to become avid readers is our main priority! If you would like resources to support this development at home, our teachers are happy to point you in the right direction. We are learning more about the science of reading as a school, and we have some great interactive activities that you could try at home. Progress reports will be home in November (17th) to give you a snapshot of how your child is doing. There should be no surprises, so please be in touch with your child's homeroom teacher if you have concerns, and be sure to sign up for a parent/teacher interview when the time comes.
Our junior students will be going to the Petes' Game on October 19! Please be sure to get the forms and money in ASAP as we have to let them know our numbers.
Reminder: our yard is not open to students prior to 9:00 a.m., so please be sure that they are not arriving before this time.
Picture Day is scheduled for Monday, November 6.
Open House (Meet the Teacher) evening will be Thursday, October 5th from 4:30-6:30. Food trucks will be on site if you wish to have dinner or a treat with us!
We continue to have many activities planned to connect our school to our families, community, and each other. Extra curricular activities are up and running soon for grades 4-6, please encourage your children of this age to listen carefully to the announcements for tryouts. Soccer is this week (October 5) and Cross Country is next week (October 10). Rugby is upcoming.
Research tells us that attendance matters! Please support us in having students arrive on time, and regularly so that they can get the most out of their learning. Even being 10 minutes late everyday can add up to a lot of missed learning. Missing one day a week adds up quickly to weeks or even months of school missed. Student who attend on time and regularly, are more likely to succeed and develop a sense of belonging.
There is information below about attendance, hot lunches, Terry Fox, Bell schedules, etc., please have a look!
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact the office.

Barb Bloom, Principal
We need clothing!
We found some time to go through our "extra clothing" closet and we are short a few items that could help us out! If you have any pants, for male or female, sizes 4-14, preferably pull on (no zippers or buttons), socks, underwear (male) that your child or children have outgrown, we could use them! Please make sure that they are clean as we have no means to wash things here.
School Council Update
Our current Council Chair, Kelly Grant is a great support along with each of our Council members! It takes a team to keep RFD full of fun, activity and meaningful learning.
Thank you to our Council!

Bell Schedules
We continue to follow the same bell schedule at RFD. Please do NOT send your child/ren to school prior to 9:00 unless they are in Compass Care.
We continue to ask that families remain outside of the school yard both before school and after school. We invite you to say farewell and hello to your students at the gate or the curb. This helps us to keep track of who belongs on our yard and who doesn't.
Our bell schedule is as follows:
9:00-9:15 Supervised yard time
9:15 Entry Bell
9:20 Announcements
10:55 Recess
11:15 Snack
11:35 Middle Block of Learning
1:15 Recess
1:35 Lunch
1:55 Final Block of Learning
