What you need to know this week:
- Please take a moment to read the attached letter regarding the return procedure for all school-issued devices.
- 8th Grade Closing Ceremony: The Thursday, June 10th ceremony will begin at 2:00 pm and will be live-streamed for all additional guests. Please read the attached letter from Mrs. Herschberger for all day of information. LIVE STREAM LINK
Report Cards will be distributed via email on Friday, June 11th.
Transportation Request 2021-2022: If your child requires transportation for the upcoming school year, please complete the form below. A form MUST be filled out for each child. Students in 7th and 8th grade will be provided Transpasses. Please note, this is only a REQUEST. If you are approved you will be notified by the School District over the summer. New sign-ups for the Parent Flat Rate Program opened on Monday, June 7, 2021, and registrations are due June 25, 2021. Please CLICK HERE to sign up. Any questions, please call 215-400-4000 and ask for transportation.

Important Volunteer/ Chaperone Information In order to volunteer in any capacity (including chaperoning trips) you must fulfill the following directives which are part of the Child Protective Law:
The law requires all school employees, contractors, and volunteers to have direct contact with children to obtain clearances (child abuse history clearance and state and federal criminal history checks).

What are working papers? All students between the ages of 14 and 17 are required by Pennsylvania School Law to secure an Employment certificate, known as "Working Papers," before they may begin to work.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has extended the federal halt on evictions until June 30th, 2021. Phase 4 of the City's Rental Assistance is now open!
Surviving the Summer-
Want to make sure your child is engaging in educational activities throughout the summer? Look no further than your local library. With tons of genres and options, there’s something for everyone to read. Most libraries also offer summer reading lists depending on your child’s age. Look here to find a library near you.
Additionally, check out these wonderful online resources for Pre-K- 8th-grade students to stay engaged during the summer:
READING:
- “Read & Learn with Simon Kids” is a new video series hosted on the Simon Kids YouTube channel. Parents and educators can find self-shot videos by Simon & Schuster authors and illustrators, including read-alouds, drawing tutorials, and more.
- Story Online features actors — including Lily Tomlin, Oprah Winfrey, Chris Pine, and more — reading children’s books alongside illustrated videos.
EDUCATIONAL:
- PBS Kids provides games, activities, and tips for emotions and self-awareness, social skills, character, literacy, math, science, and arts for ages 2 through 8.
- Mystery Science is offering a starter list of K-5 science classes free, without requiring users to sign up or log in.
GET MOVING:
- GoNoodle offers videos to get kids moving, including dancing, stretching, running, jumping, and more. The channel has an app that’s recommended for kids 5 and up.
- Cosmic Kids Yoga offers free yoga on YouTube for young children ages 3 and up. There are countless classes, from 3 mins. to 3 hrs., featuring storytelling (themes: “Frozen,” and “Moana”), singing, and of course yoga with a yogini Jaime Amor.
MENTAL WELLNESS:
- On YouTube, Moovlee offers yoga and meditation exercises for kids that are led by a cartoon monkey.
- GoZenOnline offers anxiety relief songs, relaxation exercises, and tips for parents on its YouTube channel.

What is The Philadelphia STEM Equity Collective (PSEC)? A $10 million, 10-year commitment by a global healthcare company, GSK, focused on increasing the number of women, Black/African American, and Latinx Philadelphia students to overcome obstacles to their pursuit of careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The PSEC, established in January 2020, will work hand-in-hand with schools, out-of-school time providers, universities and colleges, employers, local government, and the philanthropic community using a collective impact model to identify and close gaps confronting children from backgrounds underrepresented in STEM.

Read-a-long Story Trails: Free Books!
Keep an eye out for a new addition to the Tookany/ Tacony- Frankford Watershed Partnership, Inc. trail this month! They are partnering with the Frankford Library and Greater Olney Library for StoryTrails, a read-a-long walk experience for young readers.

Youth Workshop: Beatmaking 101- AGES 12-16
Scribe Video Center is hosting 5 Sessions — Thursday, June 17, 24, July 1, 8 & 15 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM this summer!
For teens (ages 12-16) interested in crafting and publishing their own beats, this workshop will introduce you to the basics of composing and publishing your own audio sequences. Using accessible and free cloud-based audio applications, participants will be instructed on basic beat structures and concepts to beatmaking. Students will leave with knowledge of how to export a final song and how to release it on streaming services. Cost: $40, $25 Scribe members and family
Instructor bio.:
Nelson Nance is a fearless artist who combines the courageous cacophony of the DaDa art movement with remnants of futurism and Funk. Recently he has contributed as a writer, director, and composer on the critically acclaimed HBO series Random Acts of Flyness created by his brother Terence Nance.

Free Meals Pickup 🍽️🥪🥣
We are continuing to give out frozen meals that last up to a month in the freezer, so extra meals can be stocked and saved for the weekends or a much later date! Pickup for multiple meals traditionally takes place at our cafeteria (Adams Ave. entrance) on Mondays and Thursdays from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
We hope families continue to take advantage of this cost-saving and nutritional convenience.

To summarize, GoGuardian provides the following benefits to students and teachers:
Helps in protecting students against harmful and inappropriate online material
Helps students stay “scholarly” and more focused when learning online
Helps in assessing students’ progress towards class assignments
Facilitates communication between teachers and students during class time
