Hillsdale Herald
Hillsdale Elementary School, May 2020
Check out our morning announcements each day!
We are almost there!
This week will follow our current plan of instructional activities Monday - Thursday with Friday as a planning day, but then the last two weeks are different.
Monday 5/25 is Memorial Day, so no school. Teachers will provide instructional activities for Tuesday - Friday that week and then plan on Monday, June 1 for the last four days of school.
The last day of school for students is Friday, June 5th.
We will schedule a time in early June for you to come to school to pick up your child's belongings from their desk/classroom. I will send a separate email with the details as soon as they are ironed out!
Thank YOU for making me feel so welcomed as part of the Hillsdale community this year. I have loved every minute of it. Thank YOU for all you are doing at home right now to continue to support and teach your child while we cannot be in the school building!

Thinking about Next Year
As the end of the school year approaches, we begin planning for next year!
Please know that in this ever-changing situation, we are looking at all things related to reopening schools in the Fall! We want to make the best decisions for all our students, so Dr. Scanlon will be making those final decisions with input from a lot of people. He will share any final decisions with all of us.
One of our most important tasks in the school is the formation of classes for the upcoming school year.
The placement of students for the following school year is a very complex and thorough process with many factors impacting the decision-making. Your child’s current homeroom teacher, reading specialists, special area teachers, school counselor, school psychologist, gifted teacher, ELL teacher, learning support teacher, and I work collaboratively to create the classes for the following school year.
The team has many factors to take into consideration when placing students. In conjunction with School Board policy for class size, we attempt to create a balanced classroom taking into account the academic, social, and emotional needs of each of our students. In addition, your child’s present teacher shares with the team individual strengths and needs based on progress, as well as information shared between parent and teacher throughout the school year.
Due to all of these critical factors, we do not accept specific requests for next year’s teacher nor do we arrange meetings to discuss placement. Please be assured that we have your child’s best interest at heart throughout the entire placement process. Parents will be notified of the classroom assignment(s) in August after all class lists are approved and final.
Thank you for your continued support of all our students here at Hilllsdale Elementary School. Enjoy the remaining weeks of this highly unusual school year!
