Gertie Belle Rogers Elementary

Principal's Note

Hello Gertie Belle Rogers Families!

It has been a great month at GBR and the Mitchell School District as a whole. We look forward to building our rosters for the 2023-24 school year soon, 5th-grade recognition in May, a Luau, statewide testing in April, and all of our field trips coming up soon. There are many exciting events all over the district, including breaking ground on a new high school which our current students at GBR will be among the first to attend!

Looking back at the past month, it was easy to be inspired. The GBR PTA marked a huge success with raffle sales and a Glow Dance which was a lot of fun! Mrs. Wilson, a third-grade teacher at GBR, was named Teacher of the Year in the Mitchell School District and will now be considered for Regional Teacher of the Year and potentially State Teacher of the Year. We had a visit from the boys' and girls' basketball teams as they headed to their respective state tournaments. Our building was abuzz with Kernel fever! These are just a few of the highlights from the last month!

We continue on with our Energy Bus program at GBR. Last month we focused on Rule 3 of 5 which was No Bullies Allowed! This month, we will focus on Rule 4: Love your passengers. Talk with your learners at home about what they can do for others, and what sort of attitude they can have which will serve the people around them. Rule 5 will take place in May, which is Enjoy the Ride as we look towards summer and activities. Now is the time to consider how to get your learner involved this summer. Mitchell offers so many opportunities for learners to stay connected, make new friends, and try new things!

Rule 1: Create a Positive Vision

Rule 2: Fuel Your Ride with Positive Energy

Rule 3: No Bullies Allowed

Rule 4: Love Your Passengers

Rule 5: Enjoy the Ride

If I or the staff at GBR can help you in any way, please do not hesitate to contact me at chris.gubbrud@k12.sd.us or by phone at 605-995-3091. Thanks for letting us work with your learners day in and day out!

Classroom Requests for 2023 - 2024

Once again it is that time of the school year that you may be thinking about registration and classroom placement for your student(s) for the 2023-2024 school year.

Please click the link below to request a certain teacher or classroom style for the next school year! Please note, teaching assignments for the 2023-2024 school year have not been finalized. Although nothing is set in stone as to what level various teachers will be teaching, or how many different styles of classrooms we will host at GBR in 2023-24, you can request now through April 21st. We will only be honoring requests through the link below unless you contact Mr. Gubbrud directly.

There are age-specific rooms, multi-age rooms, and looping options for 2023-24 as well as our Personalized Learning Community (PLC) which hosts grades 1-5 and is open to any learners who wish to be a part of this unique community. Please refer to the infographic in the request form for further details.

TIME TO REGISTER YOUR STUDENT FOR NEXT SCHOOL YEAR

It is that time of year again, when we are asking that you take the time to complete the Annual Information Update through the Infinite Campus online system for the 2023-2024 school year. To do so, please log in to your Infinite Campus Parent Portal account using the link below. If you do not have a Parent Portal account you will need to call the school office or Erica Weier at our Central Registration to request one. Erica's number is 605-995-7606.

Once you are in the Parent Portal you will click on "More" then click "Annual Information Update" and choose "Existing Student Registration".

We ask that you complete this before Fall registration.

Congratulations to GBR's Traci Wilson!

THANK YOU FROM THE GBR PTA!

The GBR PTA would like to extend a warm “Thank You” to all those who volunteered to help make our first ever “Let’s Glow Dance” and classroom basket raffle a HUGE SUCCESS!! Minus expenses, we managed to make a little over $13, 000. Without your time and commitment this event would not have been possible. Please consider joining us at our next PTA meeting on Monday, April 24th @ 6:00 pm in the GBR common’s. Daycare and snacks will be provided for you for free. We would also love for you to consider joining the PTA next school year for only $5.00 for the entire year. The PTA would also enjoy having your help and creativity to plan our next BIG fundraiser event in October next year. We are thinking of something on the lines of a Fall Festival with a cake walk and a family dance where students can dress up in the school appropriate Halloween costumes. We are still waiting for warmer weather so we can hold the incentive which is for reaching our goal with the sales of raffle tickets. If you have any cool or unique ideas for the event, please share with a PTA member, or your child’s teacher. Students are encouraged to share as well. Thank you again for helping us make GBR a great place for kids to learn and grow. See you on April 24 for our next meeting!

**Please mark on your calendars about our May 1st Zesto Night Fundraiser!

HEADPHONES $4.00

We now have a new shipment of higher quality headphones in the office. Previously, the headphones we had in the office were replaced free of charge because of the quality of the headphones themselves. We have now purchased new, improved headphones that are more resilient, and of higher quality. the downside is that if your learner needs to replace their headphones and you to choose to use the headphones available in the office, they will be at a cost of $4.00 to each learner. This is the "cost" price of these headphones.

LOST AND FOUND

If your child is missing any clothing, specifically hoodies, please have them check the lost and found. The collection is threatening to overtake us!
