Jessica Hill Davis
The Jessica Hill Davis Memorial Scholarship was created to honor the memory of Jessica Davis, a Crosby Scholars senior at Reagan High School who lost her life to cystic fibrosis shortly before she was due to graduate and to enroll at North Carolina State University. This scholarship, which was first awarded in 2012, provides scholarships annually to two graduating Crosby Scholars seniors.
Eligibility
To be considered for this award, applicant must:
- demonstrate academic achievement by holding a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.0 or higher
- enroll at a public or private 2- or 4-year institution in North Carolina
- complete all requirements of the Crosby Scholars Program
- preference will be given to recipients of the Crosby Scholars Executive Directors Award (enrolled in Program since 6th grade without interruption)

$1,200 non-renewable
Application Procedure
Scholars can begin applying March 26, 2018 and must submit a completed online application through their Crosby Scholars Student Portal by April 29, 2018.
The completed application packet includes:
- Online application form
- Essay -- In comparison to other high-school students, Jessica faced different routines, confronted different challenges, and developed unique perspectives as a result of the medical struggles involved with battling cystic fibrosis. Consider your own life/choices/conditions that are different from others and the manner in which you have faced and/or coped with them. Write a concise essay (should not exceed 500 words) on your response to the following prompt:
“I always felt different because…”
Students must submit an online application through their Crosby Scholars Student Portal. The application deadline is May 06, 2018.
Fulton Carolina Medal
The Fulton Carolina Medal, which was first awarded in 2006, provides one scholarship annually to a graduating Crosby Scholars senior with an exceptional commitment to volunteer service and who plans to enroll at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. This award is in honor of Paul Fulton’s commitment to Crosby Scholars and to UNC Chapel Hill and to honor his inspiring record of service to individuals and to the larger community.
Eligibility
To be considered for this award, applicants must:
- demonstrate an active and exemplary commitment to volunteer service
- choose to enroll at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
- complete all requirements of the Crosby Scholars Program
Value
Renewable; $1,500
Application Procedure
Students may begin applying April 02, 2018 and must submit a completed online application through their Crosby Scholars Student Portal by May 6, 2018.
The completed application includes:
- Online application form
- Copy of acceptance letter to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Be sure to enter UNC Chapel Hill as your college name on the Profile page of your student portal.)
- Activities resume -- Current activities resume should be in chart form and should include hours of participation for each community service activity. Use the resume in your Crosby portal as a guide.
- Financial Aid Award Letter – If the student filled out a FAFSA, please upload a copy of the Financial Aid Award Letter provided by UNC Chapel Hill. If the student did NOT fill out a FAFSA, please upload a statement explaining why the student requires additional financial assistance. Please upload this statement into the ‘Financial Aid Award’ upload box.
- Essay explaining why volunteer service was important to your personal growth and preparation for college. Essay should not exceed 500 words in length.
Students must submit an online application through their Crosby Scholars Student Portal. The application deadline is May 06, 2018.
Dean Smith Integrity Award
The Dean Smith Integrity Award, first awarded in 2015, provides one scholarship to a graduating Crosby Scholars senior who exemplifies the virtues of integrity, loyalty, and open-mindedness and who plans to enroll at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. This award is to honor the memory of Coach Dean Smith, his commitment to both the Crosby National Celebrity Golf Tournament and the Crosby Scholars Invitational Golf Tournament. This award also honors his inspiring record of leadership, service, and excellence.
Eligibility
To be considered for this award, applicant must:
- Demonstrate an active commitment to leadership
- choose to enroll at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
- complete all requirements of the Crosby Scholars Program
Value
non-renewable; $1,000
Application Procedure
Students may begin applying on April 2, 2018 and must submit a completed online application through their Crosby Scholars Student Portal by May 6, 2018.

- Activities resume -- Current activities resume should be in chart form and should highlight leadership roles. Use the resume in your Crosby portal as a guide.
- Dean Smith once said, "There is a point in every contest when sitting on the sidelines is not an option." Please describe with an essay a time when you challenged a group's beliefs or attitudes, supported group diversity, or stood up for something that was not popular but was "the right thing to do." Essay should not exceed 500 words in length.
Students must submit an online application through their Crosby Scholars Student Portal. The application deadline is May 06, 2018.
