Dear Staff and Families,
We want to thank our staff, students and families for a fantastic first week back to school! Our campuses and classrooms were ready in every way, but when students walked through the gates the magic really happened! Much of the work this week was about building classroom communities. We want to make sure we know our students, their stories, their passions and their needs so that we can best support them and their learning. We also want our students to know and respect one another and this begins with building relationships in the classroom.
Our entire district staff launched the year with a Welcome Back Keynote Speaker that ignited and inspired us. Gitanjali Rao, a 16 year old inventor, scientist and author shared her story and spoke to hundreds of EUSD employees on Monday at Farm Lab. She was honored as Forbes “30 Under 30 in Science” in 2019 and TIME’s “Top Young Innovator” and "TIME Kid of the Year" for her innovations and STEM workshops she conducts globally. She shared a message that mirrored our theme for the year, Changing the World Starts Here. Her amazing accomplishments, inventions and patents have addressed social problems such as water contamination, cyberbullying and drug addiction. Her start was with a chemistry kit she received as a gift at the age of 4 and she grew up being exposed to lots of interests. She spoke to our staff about sparking students' curiosity, allowing them to innovate and fail and providing space for questioning and research. We know our classrooms are filled with innovators, problem solvers, peacemakers and changemakers and we are excited to see how they change the world for the better.
Warmly,
Andrée Grey, Ed.D.
