Arkansas Alpha Delta Kappa
February 2019
Hello sisters,
February is referred to as the month of love. Of course, this is normally in reference to Valentine’s Day, but it is also a good reminder to us about the love that we share with our Alpha Delta Kappa sisters. Please remember to show your sisters that you care for them.
Saturday, January 25, 2019, we had our Arkansas Alpha Delta Kappa Executive Board Meeting. We had a wonderful time working with officers to encourage the growth of Arkansas Alpha Delta Kappa.
Some of the highlights:
· A reminder that July 17th -20th of 2019 is the International Convention in Minneapolis, MN. There is still plenty of room availability at the Hilton Hotel starting on Monday, July 15th and over the main dates of the convention. It is rather expensive this year, but I encourage chapters to encourage members to attend, maybe your chapter could pay for registration, that would help with expenses. Cindy White, our past state president is running for South Central Region International Vice President that will be voted on at the Convention. It would be great if you could attend and support her.
· Collecting money for our State Altruistic project Ronald MacDonald House and the International Altruistic Project TeachToo.
· A donation from Rho chapter of $500.00 for the State Altruistic project Ronald MacDonald House was much appreciated and unexpected.
· Historian, Patty Snipes of Alpha presented an example of what the archives will look like using Shutterfly.
· By-laws committee chair Margaret Monk of Alpha Mu revised all the chapters by-laws and sent the revisions to chapter presidents (more information later in the newsletter). Thanks for all your hard work.
· Altruistic committee chair, Brenda Keisler of Theta reminded us that the Chapter Altruistic forms are due and can be completed on online (more information later in the newsletter).

World Understanding News
In the January Newsletter, there was a challenge to all Southwest Regional ADK Chapters to get their name on the list of donors to Teach Too. Currently, the amount raised is lower than what was projected at this time. Please join the cause and donate. Chapters are asked to give a donation of at least $25. If your chapter has already donated, thank you. If not, try to do so soon.
Rachel Shankles would love to come to one of your meetings and share her experience. She sent me this note:
These chapters have contributed to Teach Too as of end of Dec to total $10,142.64 of the $50,000 needed by July. Remember we are challenged to send at least $25 each chapter but to pass the hat or something to get more. Put Teach Too and your state and chapter name in memo on the check to the Foundation.
Ark---Psi, XI, NU, Alpha Epsilon, Alpha Rho, Alpha, and Alpha Mu
*Rachel will come to a chapter mtg and present about this if invited. She has been to Alpha, Theta, Alpha Epsilon, Alpha Mu and goes to Alpha Rho next week. Imagine Missions has a Facebook page and they -plus anyone in ADK -can join the book club there to read some titles about Haiti. Try “The Big Truck That Went By: How the World Came to Save Haiti and Left Behind a Disaster” by Katz.
Let's all do our part to help reach this goal.

Keeper of the State Memories
AR State Archives, Patty Snipes
It’s almost time for school and ADK meetings to begin. What a great time of the year! If you are in charge of the Archives for your chapter be sure to take many pictures of everything. Keep them sorted by folders on your computer so you will have them handy when you are ready to create your archive. Two years will go by very fast! Eventually I will need two 8x10 pages for the State Archives so, start taking pics and keep the memories for your chapter. For questions: plsnipes@sbcglobal.net
