#PHMExcellence
We're happy to introduce you to P-H-M bus driver Greg Trytko as the inaugural Culver's Bus Driver of the Month!!! Greg drives Bus #117 for Moran Elementary School. Greg is a '78 Penn grad and has been with P-H-M going on seven years. Greg is praised for his positive attitude and his willingness to cover extra routes when needed. So far this school year, he has completed 41 field and athletics trips--adding up to almost 250 hours! We are beyond grateful for Greg. Thank you to Culver's and the P-H-M Education Foundation for being partners in recognizing our valued school bus operators.
Do you have a bus driver you want to nominate for Culver's Bus Driver of the Month? We want to recognize elementary, middle and high school bus operators. Click here to fill out the nomination form. Winners will be announced on the last Wednesday of every month.
I Love To Read Challenge
February is one of our favorite months at Northpoint because we participate in WSBT's "I Love To Read Challenge" Our school has participated in this reading initiative ever since the news station invited schools from across the region to read more in February. Our goal every year is to read for a total of one million minutes in one single month. We kicked off this challenge with our One School One Book assembly where students got to watch Professor Wow from #Greatshowsforkids put on a Science performance that was fun, exciting and most of all informative. The book our school will be reading is Nick and Tesla's High Voltage Danger Lab. All students have a copy and will either be reading the book at home or in class. Ask you students about it. As always we need the support of our parents to encourage your students to push themselves to read more this month. Sitting down to read with your child counts as minutes read too.

Middle of the Year Assessments
At this time our teachers have completed all middle of the year assessments to check in on how studens are progressing. Some reports have been shared with parents and teachers are diving into their data and developing action plans to help your child continue to reach their full potential. They may be reaching out to you to get support with interventions or strategies that you can do at home to assist in their growth. We will start NWEA testing next week, this is a high ability testing measure for both Language Arts and math. Please note that NOT ALL students will be taking these tests. If a student qualifies, parents will recieve a letter stating what their student high ability qualifications are. The next progress report will be given at the end of March, let's work together to help our Stars shine bright and put forth their best effort.

PTO Funding Spotlight
Cafeteria Projector
Our cafeteria is getting a new projector thanks to PTO donations. It's being installed this spring and we can't wait to use it for various events and learning opportunities at school.
Gymnasium Laptop
Our PTO was able to purchase a new computer for the gymnasium. This allows Coach McCaskill and other staff members to have improved functionality and reliability for audio and visual resources in the gym.
One School One Book
Northpoint has kicked off "I Love To Read" with One School One Book. Our PTO has purchased copies of Nick and Tesla's High Voltage Danger Lab for all students to read during our reading challenge. The PTO funded a Science Show from Professor Wow to kick of this exciting STEM themed book.

Books and Bots
The Young Authors' Conference and Next Gen Conference are teaming up. They will run back to back at the high school, rather than having two separate events on the same day. We are calling the event "Books & Bots" and you can find the flyers attached.
Get ready for some friendly competition. We are looking for the elementary school with the highest percentage of attendees. This school will win a collection of the author's books that are currently in print for your school library. Information about our author can be found here. Carolyn Crimi has written a wide variety of books including: Weird Little Robots, Secondhand Dogs, Don’t Need Friends, Henry and the Buccaneer Bunnies, Where’s My Mummy?, There Might Be Lobsters, and I Am The Boss of This Chair. We can't wait for her interactive presentation.
Registration opens January 30, 2024.

Parent Survey Newsletter
To meet the requirements of STEM certification, we are required to have parents fill out surveys from time to time. Please take 5 minutes of your time to fill out the survey for your child at Northpoint. If you have more than one child at Northpoint and would like to fill one out for each, feel free, as some questions may be answered differently for each child. However, that is not required. Thank you for your support in this endeavor.
Best Practices in Safe Possession and Storage of Firearms
Dr. Jenner shared the following link in her weekly Friday IDOE Update for the past two weeks. As required by Indiana Code (IC) 20-19-3-30.4, the Indiana Department of Education and the Indiana State Police developed resources to serve as best practices regarding the safe possession and storage of a firearm in a home with a child.
Procedures for Car Pool Line
Due to an increased amount of car riders this year, we need to change our car pool procedures to provide a safer environment for our staff and students. Please be sure to pick up a car tag number in the office if you don't have one yet. We would appreciate your patience and cooperation as we implement the following new procedures;
1. Once you have entered the curb line up, please wait until you have been ushered forward to begin exiting the car pool line.
2. DO NOT pass around cars at any time while you are in the car pool line.
3. Cars will be stopped at the entrance to the the curb line to allow for all students to enter vehicles and exit safely.
4. Your child will be directed to walk safely to their vehicle that should be stopped along the curb.
5. If you are stopped at the entrance to the car pool line, you will be the lead car that should pull all the way up to the first cone . DO NOT STOP WHERE YOUR CHILD MIGHT BE STANDING.
6. PLEASE STAY OFF YOUR CELL PHONES DURING CAR POOL PICK UP.
7. If you need to help buckle in your child, please pull into the parking lot to do so and don't do so while driving in the carpool line as it holds up traffic flow.
8. Watch for the traffic ushers who will be wearing orange vests to direct you when in the curb lane.
9. IF THE BELL RINGS AND THERE ARE NO LONGER ANY ADULTS AT THE CURB, PLEASE PARK YOUR CAR AND WALK YOU CHILD INTO THE BUILDING.
We understand that waiting in a long line is frustrating, but we have to think of the safety of our students and staff members. We appreciate your support with these new procedures. Please call Mrs. White at 574-271-8598 or email her at lwhite@phm.k12.in.us if you have any questions.
