Principal Update
9/10/20
Next Week
This has been an interesting journey so far. In the history of online learning, no one has ever experienced it at this scale. We are hoping that you and your extended family members are safe in terms of both the pandemic and the forest fires. At this point, very few of our community members have experienced power outages. If you have experienced a power outage, please let us know so that we can adequately account for attendance.
Below you will find a distance learning schedule that is effective 9/14. In the PTA meeting last night there were some questions about the flexible time. I will share those concerns with teachers as we continue to discuss what that will look like at Beaumont. Thank you for your patience with this process.
In addition, we have had many successes during our soft start; however, we have received feedback from families that you would like a list of class codes (kind of like a cheat sheet). Please see the attachment titled Beaumont Middle School Teacher Meet Codes. If you do not see your student's teacher's class code included on the sheet, please use our default, which is: teacher's last name and class period number (vimegnon1). Please remember if your student needs help navigating their schedule, please have them log on to Google Meets and click, "join a meeting" and enter beaumontsupport in order to receive live support from our help desk.
The schedule is based on the state guidelines and additionally the district leadership coordination with labor partners. I know that teachers are really excited to meet with students and work within the live sessions and small group sessions. We will continue to discuss this process with the teachers for the purposes of clarity when sharing with parents.
The flexible times on the schedule are for Office Hours (OH), Small Group Instruction (SGI), and Applied Learning (AL). Teachers will use student data to determine the small group sessions. The small group session will be flexible and change week to week based on student achievement data. Teachers will share more specifics once they have been able to establish classroom expectations and assess student knowledge and instructional needs.
TEXTBOOKS, TEXTBOOKS
We are getting ready to distribute textbooks next week. We are still missing a lot of textbooks from last school year. If your child has textbooks at home, please have them return them to the textbook bin outside of the Bryce Street entrance. We have developed a plan to also distribute yearbooks from the 2019-2020 school year and band instruments simultaneously. We were asked to make this plan tentative today, as we watch the air quality updates. Please see the detailed document below.
