A Message from Principal Gordon
Dear Lincoln Families,
Happy First Week! This week has proven true to the school and family relationship being so important. Although I have had the privilege of dropping into our virtual classrooms, I know the hard work you all are doing behind the scenes to support your children and their learning. I am so thankful for you and your dedication to make this difficult time a successful one.
Thank you to all of those who joined us for our first ever Virtual Dance Party. What fun! It was so great to see the children, the families and the staff all partying together. More so, what a great way to end our first week of school. I have been blown away by some of the great things that I have been seeing this week, and have enjoyed visiting classrooms to see the faces of Lincoln along with great teaching and learning.
I hope you all are having a great Labor Day weekend and I look forward to another great week.
Sincerely,
Ms. Gordon

Thank You Lincoln Teacher's and Staff
I could not be more proud to work with such a dedicated and hardworking group of educators who care so deeply for their students.
School Attendance
The Illinois State Board of Education states that "during Remote Learning, attendance should continue to be submitted to ISBE in the same manner as prior to the COVID-19 pandemic – via the Student Information System. The primary purpose of attendance during this time is to account for the instructional learning days and to keep students engaged. Our students’ overall well-being is always our highest priority".
The school day start at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 3:00 p.m. (2:30 p.m. on Wednesday).
If your child will not be in attendance for the day, leaving school early or arriving late, please inform the school office. Calls will be made home for any student who is not online unless we have received notification from a parent.
Please communicate your child's absence by emailing the classroom teacher AND lincolnattendance@op97.org. You may also call the attendance number at 708-655-3067.
Spotlight On
In the article, Mrs. Thompson shares some practical advice for supporting learning at home, and encouraged families to connect with teachers if their child is struggling.
"Reach out to them with respect and kindness and know that they want school to be a positive experience for your child," she wrote. "We all want the same thing―to get through this as successfully as possible."
VIRTUAL SPIRIT WEEK - September 14
District 97 Information
District 97 to Continue Providing Free Meals to All Students Every Tuesday
On Aug. 31, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced that it will extend key waivers that allow school districts to continue serving free meals to all children into the fall months. This will ensure that all District 97 students have access to nutritious food at no cost—regardless of where they are learning or whether they qualify for free or reduced lunch.
Beginning Sept. 8, meals will be provided free of cost to any District 97 student in need. Meal distributions will be held every Tuesday, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Longfellow Elementary School (for Julian and feeder schools), 715 S. Highland Ave., and Brooks Middle School (for Brooks and feeder schools), 325 S. Kenilworth Ave.
Each bag of food will contain five breakfasts and five lunches. Click here for the September 2020 menus.

D97 to Host Virtual Parent Circles on September 16 and 23
District 97 families are invited to join two upcoming Virtual Parent Circles, which will be facilitated in partnership with the E-Team of Oak Park. Events will be held:
- Wednesday, Sept. 16, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. (click here to register)
- Wednesday, Sept. 23, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. (click here to register)
These sessions were organized to accommodate families who were unable to participate in parent circles during our Aug. 13 Parent University. The sessions are designed to build community among District 97 parents and guardians and provide support as we navigate remote learning.
