what was the change ?
The Renaissance was a huge change in Europe from 1300 - 1600 . It was known as the rebirth of art & learning from Greece & Rome. It took place in Florence , Italy .
who were the people associated with the change ?
Medici Family
The Medici Family was also known as The House of Medici. They were very wealthy & had political power . Also influenced art & culture in Florence ,Italy .
The Renaissance Men
Leonardo Da Vince : He was known as a painter , sculptor & scientist . He also drew the Mona Lisa in a very realist way . Out of all his paintings , only 17 survuved .
Michelangelo Buonarroti : He usually portrayed the human body . Some of his works of art are the Sistine Chapel & the Dome of St. Peter's .
Important Contributions
- Machiavelli- Machiavelli wrote " The Prince " . It talked about the imperfect conduct of human beings . It also talks about how a ruler can gain power & keep it in spite of enemies
- Erasmus - was a Christian humanist . He believed in " Christianity of the Heart " & didn't see the rulers & ceremonies as important . He also believed that to improve society all people should study the bible .
- Petrarch - Known as the Father of the Renaissance Humanism . During the Renaissance he was also known as a great writer & poet .
- Dante - Wrote in the vernacular-native languages . Most people in Europe no longer spoke Latin , so him writing in vernacular native language helped people access to his literature .
How did the change impact society at the time ?
During the Renaissance people got away from the church & started to question the church & the Pope . People began taking up their own views , & options on the world . Humanism began to take over . Also , the Renaissance was the first burst of cultures after the " Dark Ages "
How is that change seen in today's modern society ?
In modern society , the Renaissance is seen through art . Leonardo da Vince's paintings are seen in museums . For example , the Mona Lisa , one of his most famous paintings . Another example would be Michelangelo's work on the human body . Also , the church used to rule back then . Today , the church doesn't rule Italy .
