Counseling Update for Staff

Classroom lessons

All students had a lesson that focused on career awareness. I used a Christmas theme with all classes to talk about career choices. Students were reminded that being a student is their career at this time. Being on time, being a good team member and a problem solver are skills that they need in the workforce.

Small Groups

My 2nd - 5th grade lunch bunch small groups will finish up the second week of December. Please be thinking of students who you think would benefit from being in a group. The next round will start in February. My focus will be coping strategies/resiliency skills.

I will continue to work with my K/1 small groups during specials. These groups are not ready to change .

I am having some issues with my referral form so if you have done a referral in the past few weeks and I haven't picked up your student, please let me know. I am trying to work out the problem.

Giving Tree Project

I have spent a lot of time getting information ready for this program. I am very excited about the changes we are making. My goal is to help families who are making an effort and to stop enabling families that expect everyone to give to them. I think we are making strides here.

I shared information with you on Google Drive so you know who is helping your students. Letters went home with the families that Glenwood is helping. This year the pick up will be at Glenwood Baptist Church on Wednesday, Dec. 16. We will be organizing everything on Tuesday, Dec. 15 at the church right after the Breakfast with Books activity.

Don't forget if you want to help, we need money to purchase food cards. If you go to Glenwood Baptist, please consider getting an angel off the tree. Thanks for helping our kids.

ROAR Mentoring

We have 40 kids with assigned mentors. I am very excited about seeing these mentors interact with our students.

We still have a need for additional volunteers! I have 26 kids on a waiting list.

TIMS Program

Steve Hensley finished up this program with our fifth graders on November 9. He did an excellent job and I know that our students learned some valuable information.
